**Title**:Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Group Work Facilitator
**Travel**: Remote working with occasional visits to the office
**Salary**: £9,800 per year
**Terms**:Fixed term for one year, to be confirmed after the first three months. As this is a new post, the Society will review the position after one year.
**Hours**:15 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Duties of the role include**:

- Offering 1:1 support to our members (for up to six sessions per referral)
- Developing Virtual Support Groups to meet the needs of sub-groups of our membership, including receiving/understanding a diagnosis, female carriers; grandparents; those with FXTAS; parents of primary-aged children; parents of secondary-aged children; adults with Fragile X Syndrome. The counsellor will be the organiser and facilitator of these sessions, and supported by the specialised Families and Professionals Advisors at these groups.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential Criteria**:

- Must have Level 5 (or above) qualification in Counselling
- Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Membership with BACP
- Substantial vocational experience
- Experience of or the ability to demonstrate the competence to work with children, young adults and adults with intellectual disabilities and their parents, carers and family members
- Good understanding of neuro-developmental disability and the issues that affect individuals and their families
- Clear DBS check
- An understanding of safeguarding protocols and the importance of adhering to the Society’s safeguarding policy. Up-to-date safeguarding certification or the willingness to undergo this training.
- The ability to keep clear records and adhere to the Society’s GDPR policy.
- Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams etc.
- Good listening skills
- Clear and sensitive communication, both verbally and written
- To be able to manage discussions/conversations in an empathetic and non-judgemental manner
- Ability to manage workload effectively, including prioritisation
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team

**Desirable**:

- Knowledge of Fragile X Syndrome
- Experience of counselling those with intellectual disability and/or their families
- Evidence of further professional training, e.g. Mental Health First Aid
- Experience of multi-agency and partnership working

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Part-time hours: 15 per week

**Salary**: £9,800.00 per year
