**About this Role**:
**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**
- Provide efficient and effective support for students with Special Educational Needs and disabilities to assist in their integration with the main school. The post requires flexibility and the ability to work well in a team. Ensure that the special educational needs and disabilities of students, as described in their statement of educational needs/education health and care plan and/or their one plan are supported.
- Help students learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on their own.

This can be done in a variety of ways including:

- Clarifying and explaining instructions; repeating tasks, e.g. removing pen lids, supporting the student to begin working.
- Ensuring the student is able to use equipment and materials provided; supporting the student with equipment as necessary.
- Ensuring the correct use of any specialist/medical equipment with a view to being trained as necessary on how to use them.
- Motivating and encouraging the student as required.
- Helping students to concentrate on and finish set work.
- Liaising with class teacher to deliver complementary learning activities.
- Meeting physical needs, as required whilst encouraging independence.
- Understand and respect students’ views so they can be supported effectively.
- Establish a supportive relationship with the student(s).
- Encourage acceptance and integration of the student(s) with special educational needs and disabilities.
- Develop methods of promoting/reinforcing student(s) confidence and independence.
- Attend to students’ personal needs including help with social, welfare and health matters, including first aid.

**Support Supporting the Teacher**
- Pro-actively assist, with class teacher (and other professionals as appropriate), in the development of a suitable programme of support for student(s) with special needs.
- Maintain records on specified students following the school’s agreed format and as directed by the Senco/Deputy Senco and Class Teacher.
- Provide information on students for class teachers.
- Participate in evaluation of support programmes.
- Assist with checking of diaries, work completed and marking some work if directed by the teacher.
- Plan exactly how you will support individual students to access learning/activities/tasks, following school policy.
- Work with small groups that may or may not include the named student, as directed by the teacher.
