**JOB SUMMARY**:
To understand the challenges and complexities around homelessness today, the impact that homelessness has on families and single people and have a commitment to addressing housing issues and reducing homelessness and rough sleeping.
To provide a comprehensive housing-related advice and information service in accordance with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and ensure decisions are made in accordance with legislation, case law and local policies. To proactively carry out home visits to ascertain what if any homelessness duties are owed including outreach work with a range of agencies at local and regional level.

**RESPONSIBILTIES**:

- To work with the outreach contract workers in the completion of housing needs assessments for rough sleepers identified during outreach patrols to determine what actions can be taken to resolve housing and support needs. Ensure the completion of personal housing plan aimed identifying support needs, securing alternative accommodation and relieving homelessness.
- To keep abreast of developments in all aspects of private sector housing law, including the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 as amended and Tenancy rights under the Housing Act 1988 1996 and 2004 Act. Assess and determine to what extent legal action should be initiated or defended and the tactics as appropriate, in the exercise of our powers and duties under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, Housing Act 1996 and other relevant legislation in all cases.
- To provide the Housing Solutions Service from different locations throughout the borough, including working on a roster basis within corporate working hours where the need is identified. To conduct outreach work aimed at promoting the work of the Housing Solutions Service, preventing future homelessness and promoting alternatives to social housing, as required.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Ability to work as part of a team and to initiate and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, the community, the police and other external agencies. Ability to broker relationships with services and develop pathways to enable clients to make and sustain positive change.
- Ability to record and report work to a good standard, using IT systems as well as written records. An ability to motivate others within the team and to support and coach skilled outreach practitioners and volunteers.
- Ability to have or acquire knowledge an excellent working knowledge of all elements of housing needs: housing advice, homelessness prevention, property allocation and choice-based lettings.
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills, ability to manage competing work demands methodically to achieve targets and meet changing demands and priorities

**Also, will be required to go through an enhanced DBS check.
