**Accountable To**:Head of Retail

**Responsible for**:Delivering excellent customer service, assisting Hospice staff and volunteers to maximise shop sales, be proactive with stock generation, optimise pricing, processing and planning of stock to agreed quantities.

**Hours**:21 hours per week worked over 3 days - Sunday/Monday and one other day (to be flexible)

**Location**:Tonbridge

**Salary**:£19,950 per annum (based on 37.5 hours per week)

Pro rata for 21 hours per week is £11,172 per annum

**About the Role**

We are pleased to offer the opportunity for an experienced retail salesperson to join a dedicated team of colleagues and volunteers. You will be fully involved in a broad range of retail activities and will make an important contribution to growing the Hospice income.

Good customer care skills will be essential, preferably in the charity sector, together with a flexible, friendly and positive approach to carrying out a wide variety of sales related duties.

**About the Hospice**

We have been providing exceptional care to people living with a terminal illness in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge, Malling and surrounding areas since 1991. The Hospice has built an excellent reputation within the local community for the quality of our care which has been further endorsed by the Care Quality Commission who gave the Hospice an overall rating of Outstanding following an inspection in February 2017.

Many people tell us of the difference we have made by making every day precious at the most difficult of times. Our care is local, free and is offered to everyone who needs it. Last year we cared for over 1,700 patients and their families. Our services cost £5 million a year to run, with over £4 million raised through the generosity of our local community.

**Key Responsibilities**
- To deliver excellent customer service dealing effectively with complaints
- Maintain high levels of shop presentation, creating and maintaining merchandising displays to optimise sales throughput.
- Ensure minimum losses of both stock and cash by adhering to stock, bank and till procedures.
- Work alongside the Shop Manager, deputising for them as and when required.
- Work within the bounds of all necessary health & safety standards adhering to all policies, procedures and any specific retail requirements.
- Undertake relevant training and development as identified in regular one to one’s
- Represent the Hospice by behaving in a professional way always maintaining a smart appearance.

**Person Specification**
- Possess a minimum of 2 years retail or relevant hospitality experience educated as a minimum to GCSE level with excellent written and verbal English skills.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service standards with a positive caring approach.
- Flexible team player able to interact with a wide variety of people.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills being able to use own initiative.
- Flexible approach to working hours able to cover sickness, absence, holidays and work weekends.
- Possess computer literacy and till operation skills.
- Previous experience of working with volunteers and knowledge of Ebay preferred.
- Working knowledge of health & safety requirements and ideally possess the ability to assess risk within the workplace.
