Roles and Responsibilities

The Education Coordinator is a pivotal contributor to ensuring that Drumduan thrives in line with the Steiner/Waldorf principles and ethos within the contemporary education world, and that every member of the school has the opportunity to flourish.

Working in close collaboration with the Board of Trustees and school staff, the Education Coordinator supports the effective day-to-day management of the school and plays a key part in the creation, development and delivery of strategic school planning.

The Education Coordinator is responsible for facilitating teaching provision in the school, including ASN support, curriculum development, education compliance, admissions and safeguarding, and with particular responsibility for the Lower and Middle School.

Strong communication and people skills are essential for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with the Board of Trustees, Operations Group and wider College of Teachers, staff, parents and the school’s students.

The Education Coordinator is accountable to the Board of Trustees, and as part of the Operations Group, will work with them to develop a sustainable long-term future for the school and ensure excellence in the delivery of Waldorf Education.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Operations Group, the Education Coordinator is responsible for upholding the ethos and values of the school, ensuring that the students enjoy and benefit from learning in a safe environment.

Learning and Teaching
- Encourage learning to be at the core of all activities related to the school
- Support and monitor appropriate academic, pastoral, moral and spiritual curricula for our Waldorf School.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of learning and teaching in the school.
- Ensure that the progress of students is recorded, reported and supported.
- Along with other members of the Operations Team, ensure that the staff appraisals framework is conducted rigorously and timely.
- Manage the coordination of ASN support in the school and ensure that thorough assessments are made as part of the admissions process to assess if the school can meet each child’s needs on enrolment and on an ongoing basis.
- Ensure that newly qualified teachers have the appropriate induction, mentoring, training and support for them to thrive.
- Encourage all staff to be engaged and have the opportunity for continued professional development for the benefit of themselves and the school.

People
- Promote the development of a creative, adventurous, supportive and forward-looking organisation, and foster a strong sense of community within the school.
- Be involved in the appointment of staff who will enrich the students’ experience through inspirational teaching of the Waldorf curriculum.
- Ensure high standards of professional performance are established, maintained and are synonymous with the school.
- Ensure that the pastoral care of the students is the priority of all staff and is of the highest quality through a focus on the wellbeing of each child.
- Lead the safeguarding team and ensure each aspect of their duties are effectively and appropriately discharged.
- Ensure that staffing arrangements are in place for all taught and other sessions in the Lower and Middle School and that cover arrangements are in place when necessary.

Policies and Procedures
- In close cooperation with the Board of Trustees and school staff, develop and review the school's overall aims.
- Support the implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of policies and procedures intended to achieve these aims and values.
- Help to ensure a timely review and update of school policies and procedures, and compliance with them.
- Ensure that the school complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements relating to education.

School Development
- Help to promote a clear vision and direction.
- Work with the Board of Trustees and Operations Group to lead and manage strategic and development planning.
- Participate in, and help coordinate from an educational perspective, the design and delivery of development plans for the school.
- Help to establish effective structures for the smooth running of the school, ensuring that responsibilities are clear and articulated.
- Engage in the school's marketing and promotion, supporting the Business Development Manager.
- Recruit, select, admit and retain pupils, seeking to maintain and develop the school's reputation, thereby sustaining a strong student base.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with the wider community and positively explore further school development opportunities.
- Represent the school and act as a focal point and conduit for students, parents, staff, teachers and the Board of Trustees.
