Public Health Dorset is looking for a Head of Programmes to work within their enthusiastic, skilled, friendly and experienced multidisciplinary team.
Public Health Dorset is a fantastic place to work. We are in the privileged position as a shared service to work for both Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) and Dorset Councils. We also play a pivotal role working with colleagues from the NHS and voluntary and community sector.
Our team is passionate in our vision and commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of the residents in our area, and to reduce the inequalities which exist within our communities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Public Health professional to help drive improvements through commissioning and working within the Dorset Integrated Care system. Although a senior role within the team, this post also provides a great environment for someone who wants to further develop their knowledge and experience in Public Health in a supportive and successful team.

There is a strong emphasis on team development and supporting the wellbeing of our staff so we can work effectively to serve the 800 000 residents across our beautiful and diverse area. The Public Health Dorset team is recognised both locally, regionally and nationally as a very strong and effective team with colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds bringing skills and experience to our work to deliver improved health and wellbeing outcomes. We are committed to working in an evidence informed and innovative way and regularly take part in activities including training, research and presenting of our work to regional and national fora, including conferences and national reports.

**What you will be doing**

As Head of Programmes you will provide Public Health leadership and input into the development and delivery of the Public Health Dorset Business Plan, with a key remit around the oversight and delivery of the Children and Young People’s programme area.

You will work, with support from other team members, to carry out the following duties and responsibilities
- Support the Public Health Consultants, working with multi-agency partners to develop, commission and contract manage Public Health services, including for Children & Young People
- Collate data and evidence, using this to provide reports, monitor services and scoping opportunities for further improvements and working to embed a focus on prevention and reducing inequalities.
- Support the coordination of programmes and projects to improve health & wellbeing and reduce health inequalities in Dorset and BCP, particularly for children, young people and their families.

**About you**

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced public health professional who can support the scoping, development, implementation, and delivery of a range of public health programmes with a focus on Children and Young People in the first instance.

You will be an excellent communicator. Success in this post will require you to form close partnerships with both internal and external agencies across a variety of sectors within the Dorset Integrated Care System.

The role will also have responsibilities for leading and providing line management, so experience of successfully leading and managing people is important.

**Dorset Council: A great place to work**

We’re passionate about making Dorset a great place to live, work and visit. Working for us should be no exception.

At Dorset Council we:

- have ambitious aspirations
- are excited about our future
- care about Dorset and all the people who live here
- know that all roles make a difference and that our employees are key to our success

You will:

- have access to a range of employee benefits
- be part of an organisation that supports each other to grow and succeed
- have access to range of training opportunities which will help with your personal development and career progression

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. We offer an interview to everyone who declares a disability and meets the essential criteria for the role.

We also look for applicants who share our commitment to our behaviours. We will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.
