The lead professional for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults is responsible for undertaking the roles and responsibilities of named nurse as described in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).
This includes responsibility for advising QEH on its statutory responsibilities for safeguarding children stipulated in primary legislation and underpinned by Government strategy and national, regional, and local guidance, procedures and standards.
The post holder is the responsible strategic lead for the development and implementation of the Trust strategy for Safeguarding adults and children, improving patient, carer and staff experience and engagement for the QEH and related services across the ICS.
The post holder will be an influential senior leader working within the corporate team to provide strategic leadership and expert specialist advice concerning all areas of Safeguarding for children and adults, taking a significant role in the continued development of high-quality patient Experience throughout the Trust providing support and guidance to Trust staff ensuring a patient focussed service.
This post is integral to supporting the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service.
The post holder is expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate QEHKL Trust Values, whilst being the primary source of expert, strategic professional leadership, advice and guidance to the Trust Board and Divisions in matters of safeguarding for children and adults in order to deliver an outstanding patient and staff experience for the Trust and across the ICS.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King’s Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.
We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.
We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network.
In February 2022 the significant progress that has been made at QEH was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as ‘Good’ in all of the core services they inspected. They recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).
The lead professional for safeguarding children and Vulnerable adults is the responsible strategic lead for the development and implementation of the Trust strategy for Safeguarding adults and children, improving patient, carer and staff experience and engagement for the QEH and related services across the ICS.
The lead professional has responsibility to ensure that The Care Act is implemented across QEH. This will involve working with other named professionals to take a lead in all strategic planning and development relating to the protection and welfare of children and adults at risk of abuse or neglect and to advise in multi-professional safeguarding policy and development as the Trust’s representative.
The lead professional for safeguarding children and Vulnerable adults will provide leadership and management of the Trust’s Safeguarding Team and be an influential senior leader working within the corporate team to provide strategic leadership and expert specialist advice concerning all areas of Safeguarding for children and adults.
