About the AoC Workforce Team

The Workforce Team is a member focused team and is made up of three departments:
Employment Advisory Services, Industrial Relations and Recruitment & Consultancy.

Our main ‘member customers’ are the college’s HR teams (though we also work closely with other college departments and senior leaders) and our aim is to provide members with a seamless support and resources in relation to the sector’s workforce related short and long
- term needs and issues.

A typical day

The content of a working day will be very varied and made up of a range of activities and priorities may change throughout the day. A typical day may involve: answering immediate and wide-ranging queries, researching more deeply into an issue (that will have a potential impact on members or has been raised by a member), analysing data, arranging meetings (we support strategic member ‘Groups’ that meet formally and organise agendas, papers and guest speakers), attending, contributing to and sometimes taking notes for meetings that we have been organised or invited to, talking with representatives of external organisations, and keeping abreast of current issues for example by attending a webinar.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title: Workforce Advisor**

Job Purpose: To represent, inform and provide expert advice to AoC member colleges to support them as employers in their communities, and in the further education (FE) sector. This includes supporting the HR community across the AoC membership.

Directorate Member Services - Workforce

Business Unit: AoC

Reports to: Head of Employment Advisory Services

Location: Hybrid with an office base in London and ability to agree flexible location working arrangements within AoC policy guidance.

Seniority level: Professional/Specialist level

Contract type: Permanent

People management: None

Budget/revenue: none
Monetary and risk

Risk management: responsible for being alert to and mitigating management reputational risk as this is a member and stakeholder facing role

External key contacts: College leaders and managers, officials in relevant government departments and agencies and in all other national membership organisations.

Internal key contacts: All internal departments and colleagues, in particular the Recruitment and Consultancy, Industrial Relations and Membership Services/Area teams.

**Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities**

1. Work with the Head of Employment Advisory Services to develop and maintain productive relationships with HR professionals and senior college leaders to ensure we provide a proactive and responsive support service.

2. In further support of point 1. above, to continuously seek out, develop and maintain relationships with organisations outside of colleges (e.g. national professional bodies such as Acas and CIPD, government departments and counterparts in other national organisations) that will benefit our members through the provision of information and resources, but also to promote a better understanding of the sector and our members’ needs.

3. Continuously develop your knowledge of workforce and employment issues so that member colleges can be briefed appropriately and so that AoC can represent colleges effectively to government.

4. Respond to member queries received directly or through colleagues within the national member services team. Coordinate advice and support provided to ensure that AoC is both responsive to current issues and proactive in support of AoC members in matters regarding HR and employment issues.
