**Job summary**:
The Airfield Wildlife Control Unit (AWCU) is part of the airfield operations area that sits within the Air Department of HMS HERON. This post is responsible for the following key areas:
The primary purpose of the Airfield Wildlife Control Officer (AWCO) is to maintain a continuous bird/wildlife deterrent programme over the airfield and approaches and to minimize the bird strike hazard to aircraft within the circuit area. Additionally, to ensure that they understand the risks to air safety in relation to Airfield Wildlife Control and in the conduct of AWC duties on the Airfield Movement Area.

The secondary purpose of the AWCO is to assist the AWC Supervisor (AWCS) in the implementation of the Navy Command bird/wildlife control policy at RNAS Yeovilton.

The positions will be employed on a variable Summer & Winter month shift working pattern within a small, dedicated team of four personnel. The positions will attract a salary supplement for the elements of any non-standard working patterns, details can be obtained from the point of contact.

These are full time positions and applicants seeking part time and job share will only be considered provided full time cover can be achieved.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
Primary responsibilities:

- Implementing the Daily Routine and carrying out general bird/wildlife control and airfield duties in Wildlife Control Unit Orders and occasional tasks as directed by the Duty Air Traffic Control Officer (DATCO).
- Carry out administrative and cleaning tasks and take responsibility for the care, welfare, training and flying of the AWCU falcons, as directed by the Airfield Wildlife Control Supervisor.
- Informing Air Traffic Control (ATC) whenever Bird/Wildlife Control activities are taking place on the airfield and whenever unusual bird concentration is evident.
- Ensuring that airfield rounds are carried out as frequently as the current threat dictates.
- The safe correct usage/stowage of firearms and pyrotechnics on the airfield and surrounds, including permissions from ATC before firing pyrotechnics on the airfield.
- The care and inspection of the Wildlife Control Unit (WCU) vehicle in accordance with Motor Transport (MT) Orders and Instructions. Be conversant with airfield operations, its layout and airfield driving instructions.
- To maintain entries in the Daily Log, bird count proforma, falcon and ammunition log.
