Douglas, United Kingdom Isle of Man Government Full time

**About the role and our team**

We are seeking an experienced, registered health care professional to join the Isle of Man Ambulance Service (IMAS) as a Consultant Paramedic

The Isle of Man Ambulance Service are innovating our approaches to health and care and as such you will be part of the longer-term transformation of our services to better meet the needs of the Island’s population and serve our community.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that clinical excellence and leadership is embedded across the IMAS and Manx Care. You will also ensure the continued development of our service that delivers the highest standard of clinical care.

The Consultant Paramedic will be responsible for the delivery of enhanced practice for pre hospital emergency and unscheduled care within the ambulance service. This will be done by setting up the provision of a solo-crewed Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV) which is dispatched to appropriate patients (instead of all patients receiving a doubled crewed ambulance).

Clinicians will be completing assessments and diagnostics for patients at the patient’s location, followed by appropriate immediate treatment (such as pre-hospital IV fluids and antibiotics, wound closure, mobile diagnostic ultrasound and point of care blood testing), discharge and / or referral to more appropriate services that can better meet the patient’s needs, such as the patient’s GP, community / wellbeing services or outpatient clinic.

The aim of the service is to provide a timely, more efficient and appropriate response, capable of providing swift, on the scene assessment, treatment or onward referral to the most appropriate service, in order to better manage increased demand over time, reduce avoidable ED attendance and hospital admission as well as improving the patient experience and quality of care; delivering responsive healthcare in the community that traditionally could only be delivered in hospital.

Some of your other responsibilities will include:

- Providing leadership and supervision within our teams as part of our small Senior Leadership Team, consisting of specialist practitioners and our wider clinical teams
- Supporting the service to deliver new and innovative quality improvement strategies that provide solutions, whilst retaining a ‘patient first’ ethos and driving the quality agenda.
- The provision of the rotational model for the specialist practitioners.
- Ensuring clinical effectiveness and safety is provided throughout the service working with all other managers as appropriate.
- Working closely with a variety of stakeholders including Clinical Director, nurse consultant and the Head of Ambulance Services to meet agreed key performance indicators and delivery of this service.

If you are an enthusiastic and self-motivated health care professional who is passionate about providing high quality care to our Island’s residents and would love the opportunity to lead, motivate and encourage our team, we would love to hear from you
