The Assistant Merchandiser will assist with planning and managing the department sales, stock, and markdowns to maximise sales and achieve margin, and achieve terminal stock targets. The Junior Merchandiser will have previous experience in a similar Merchandiserrole managing a category or small area alone. Previous experience of garments and fashion in an advantage. Experience as a Merchandiser or Allocator or a similar level is desirable.
**Main Duties**
- Input into the department strategy, producing historical analysis as required.
- Assist in the creation of range plans, taking traded history and planned future events into consideration.
- Produce and maintain line details reflecting up to date commitment and ensure all contracts are reported correctly on the system.
- On a weekly basis update & reforecast, highlighting problem areas and areas for potentialisation and make proposals to the Merchandiser and Buyer.
- Feedback current performance to the team and make suggestions for repeats, cancellations and markdowns and understand the implications on profitability.
- Propose and cost markdown events and promotional activity.
- Oversee the availability of stock to ensure launch dates are met and intake targets are achieved in line with requirements.
- Supervise the allocation and replenishment activity to ensure prompt and effective distribution of stock and that target branch stock levels are maintained.
- Ensure that branch merchandising takes place in line with central planning and recommendations, in order to potentialise good store performance and to deal with problem stores.
- Undertake analysis of category/season/product performance on an ongoing basis and feedback lessons learnt to influence merchandising decisions both in season and for the future.
- Supervise, train and develop the Allocator, monitoring performance against their training programme performance, highlighting areas for improvement.
- Develop self through store, competitor and supplier visits. And through increased awareness of other HO functions and company issues.
- Deputise for the Merchandiser.

**Skills and Knowledge**
- Good understanding of all merchandising principles and systems.
- Good understanding of customer profile, product range, and competitors
- Brand and commercial awareness.
- Use of CIMS and Excel
- Knowledge of critical path and product lifecycle.
