Our theatres portering team is trusted, hard-working and supportive. We’re looking for a motivated, physically fit person with good interpersonal skills, with the ability to respect patient confidentiality, and who would be able to work quickly and calmly in an emergency.
There are opportunities to develop and progress. You would need to be flexible as there may be occasions when you are required to work additional hours outside of your core hours to ensure the service is covered and work a shift system that involves evening work.
To work as part of the theatre team to provide portering services within the Theatre environment and where required throughout the Trust. To facilitate the movement of patients to and from theatres. To support qualified theatre staff in the turnaround of the clinical areas between cases by assisting with the movement of patients/equipment and cleaning. To participate in the transfer of blood/blood products, specimens, pharmacy stores and equipment between relevant areas. To ensure the general upkeep of patient trolleys and other equipment within the theatre setting.
The theatre department comprises seven modern and well-equipped theatres in Chelsea, including two robotic theatres, and two in our sister hospital in Sutton. We operate on a variety of NHS and private patients, from day surgery patients to those progressing to intensive care, and from a wide range of specialties, including Sarcoma and Melanoma, Upper and Lower GI, Plastics, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Urology and Breast, and some of our patients require complex surgery which requires multiple specialities.

- To ensure that all patients and visitors are courteously assisted and directed in a manner that will reflect positively on the service and the Trust.
- To escort patients by chair, trolley, bed or accompanying on foot in keeping with the current regulations, and to assist in movement of patients as required.
- Transport trolleys and ward beds when required.
- Prepare, when trained, trolleys and ward beds for post-operative use.
