**The role**:
We are looking for a Research Fellow to work with Professor Julia O’Connell Davidson and team on the ERC funded project titled Modern Marronage: the Pursuit and Practice of Freedom in the Contemporary World. The post holder will use participatory theatre or filmmaking methods with groups of our research participants in the UK, Brazil and Ghana to develop outputs for audiences including policy makers and antislavery campaigners with a view to questioning their normative assumptions about freedom in contemporary contexts and their narrative of ‘modern slavery’. The postholder will also contribute to project impact activities, to the translation of materials from Portuguese to English, and will author and/or co-author articles and project blogs.

**What will you be doing?**:
You will initiate and take responsibility for the production of theatre or film outputs for audiences including policy makers and antislavery campaigners that question their normative assumptions about freedom and their narratives of ‘modern slavery’; train research participants in theatre or filmmaking skills necessary to enable them to co-create narratives about their own experience; assist in the translation of Portuguese policy documents, news reports and other secondary data relevant to the project, and in the translation of project outputs into Portuguese; present and discuss project outputs in English and Portuguese to audiences of academics, policy makers and NGOs, and contribute to other impact and knowledge exchange activities.
- Extensive experience and established reputation either as practitioner of Theatre of the Oppressed or as collaborative filmmaker;
- Fluency in Portuguese as well as English;
- Knowledge and experience of working with one or more of the following groups: refugees and asylum seekers in the UK and/or Brazil; socially and economically marginalised groups in Brazil and/or West Africa;
- Experience of producing participatory theatre or film, using collaborative methods;
- Experience of producing participatory theatre or film on sensitive topics, and with vulnerable groups
