**Job Purpose**
This is a key operational role with the overall aim of providing expertise to assist with clinical skills teaching and assessment in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing (SoMDN), to ensure an effective and efficient service is consistently provided. The postholder will provide advice on the set up and best operation of technical resources to aid the delivery of teaching objectives. The post is mainly based at the Wolfson Medical School but will work across all sites used by SoMDN in the delivery of clinical skills teaching.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Responsibility for the set up and take down of clinical skills equipment for teaching sessions, primarily in the Wolfson Medical School Building (WMSB), but also across all sites being used for teaching and assessment, including the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
2. Responsibility to ensure care and maintenance of the clinical skills equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining an accurate asset register, general maintenance, flagging when new or replacement kit is required and taking responsibility for purchasing it.
3. Manage the clinical skills space, supporting all users, facilitating a good experience for students and staff, and ensuring the space is maintained to high standards. This includes using the University local space timetable and understanding and implementing existing guidance.
4. Provide in depth technical knowledge, guidance, solutions and advice to facility users in order to maximise the learning experience and optimise use of technical resources (such as medical models).
5. Develop and validate new equipment and protocols. Diagnose faults and troubleshoot day to day problems, carrying out appropriate corrections as required.
6. Responsibility for managing clinical skills consumables across all sites, ensuring they are ordered timeously as required and the supplies are kept at appropriate levels. This includes gaining a familiarity with the University purchasing procedures and liaising with the MVLS Purchasing Hub as well as gaining knowledge of what is required on each site.
7. Development and maintenance of accurate documentation, such as Standard Operating Procedures for teaching sessions, and ensuring these are adhered to.
8. Where relevant, and in consultation with the Local Safety Co-Ordinator, ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the clinical skills area. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting the completion of risk assessments and COSHH assessments, ensuring health and safety documentation is completed timeously and recorded accurately and implementing and adhering to all applicable health and safety policies and procedures.
9. Assisting with clinical skills teaching sessions and assessments as required. This includes all groups (including external) and stakeholders using the WMSB facilities. The tasks will vary between teaching sessions but will always include space and kit management.
10. Liaising with and supporting the Undergraduate Medical School Clinical Skills Lead, the Undergraduate Medical School Manager and the SoMDN Chief Technician, as required, across all operational elements of the delivery of clinical skills teaching.
11. Undertaking any tasks in support of clinical skills across SoMDN in the Wolfson Medical School Building or on NHS sites as requested by the line manager.
12. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings / discussions and contribute to the wider College / School activities as required.

**Essential**:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 [Advanced Higher / Scottish vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Detailed technical knowledge and expertise in clinical skills.
A3 Up to date knowledge of relevant Health and Safety Legislation.

**Desirable**:

B1 BSc Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline.
B2 Working towards Professional Registration with relevant body.

**Skills**

**Essential**:

C1 Demonstrable in-depth technical skills and knowledge of clinical skills and the use of medical models in teaching and assessment.
C2 Experience of working in a clinical skills environment or operationally supporting a clinical skills facility in an undergraduate or postgraduate health professional training environment.
C4 Well developed analytical and problem-solving capability, including high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
C5 Proven interpersonal, communication and teamworking skills, with the ability to interact with staff and students at all levels.
C6 Ability to work independently, including the ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve problems.
C7 Ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet competing demands and at short notice.
