This is a fixed term, full time contract until 30th November 2024

**About the Role**

As our Research Fellow in River Ecology, you will make a leading contribution to a collaborative project between NTU and the Environment Agency. Our goal is to characterize refuges that support the ecological resilience of England’s ‘winterbourne’ chalk streams—dynamic ecosystems which shift between wet and dry states. We will sample freshwater macroinvertebrate communities and document physical habitats during the seasonal lowest flows and then as the river network extends upstream in response to an annual rise in groundwater levels. We will identify the macroinvertebrate taxa present, including species-level identification of families that include species of conservation interest. You will lead the development of innovative analytical models to relate spatial and temporal variability in community responses to environmental drivers, to identify the characteristics of refuges that support the recovery of biodiverse communities. To share project findings with the international research community, you will lead the preparation of one or more manuscripts for submission to a high-impact journal, and will present at events from national meetings to international conferences. Our ultimate goal is to provide scientific evidence to inform effective management actions that protect the biodiversity within river ecosystems as they adapt to global change.
