Rheumatology Consultant

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Rheumatologist to join the Taunton Rheumatology Team as the service continues to expand with recent new appointments. This is a full time 10 PA rheumatology post, based at Musgrove Park Hospital, offering the future opportunity to develop into the role of Speciality Lead.

Somerset Foundation Trust is merging with Yeovil District Hospital. There would therefore be further opportunities for the service to expand the team and develop into a county wide service for the provision of rheumatology care in Somerset.

You and your clinical manager have agreed a prospective Job Plan that sets out your main duties and responsibilities, a schedule for carrying out your Programmed Activities, your managerial responsibilities, your accountability arrangements, your objectives and supporting resources.

Responsibilities as a Medical Director or Clinical Director may be reflected by substitution for other whole or part Programmed Activities or by additional remuneration agreed locally.

This post is a Taunton-based appointment however at least one clinic per week will be based in a community hospital (Bridgwater, Chard or Minehead).

The appointee is expected to review and finalise the programme with their Specialty Lead and the Clinical Director, within 3 months of commencing the post.

It is envisaged that the successful applicants will, in conjunction with the current post holders, be responsible for providing rheumatology specialist services for both outpatient and inpatients presenting with acute and chronic rheumatological conditions as detailed in the job plan. Additional clinical supervision of a speciality trainee and specialist nurses is required and a sub-speciality interest will be encouraged.
