**BASED AT**: **S&F Equestrian, Holmes lane, Winterton**

**TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month Fixed term - various hours**

**JOB PURPOSE (A Summary)**

A unique role to be part of a team caring for equines and farm animals, being a hands-on role, working under the leadership of the yard Mangers and Directors. The role involves taking direct care of welfare needs of the animals and equines within S&F Equestrian.

The role will involve taking responsibility for the day-to-day care of the animals and equines, in a professional, proactive, and positive manner reflective of our Company’s values.

Delivering a high standard of cleanliness to enable each animal or equines housing remain in their best shape.

Offer calm, gentle and positive approach to methods to produce well-mannered and well trained equines

Take care of all tack and equipment, maintaining its cleanliness, good working order and stored away neatly and correctly

**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**

To listen to directions from yard manager to complete yard duties and maintaining the housing of all animals

To follow training plans, under directions for all equines, to achieve optimum health, stamina, and suppleness.

To ensure equines are turned out and brough in a safe manner and to a high standard

To preform care duties such as; rug charges, grooming picking feet out daily and after each training slot.

To ensure farm animals are kept to a high standard, meeting all their welfare needs.

To ensure all paperwork is filled in with due care, accurately and in a timely manner.

To ensure teamwork, under your management, is in line with the company’s policies and standards, maintaining quality care.

To develop yourself through attending regular CPD, meeting and training opportunities.

To adhere to S&F Equestrians policies and procedures and lead by example.

To work with management to know the equines and farm animals in your care individually, and to know their needs in all seasons, throughout their lives.

To communicate professionally, effectively and appropriately with your team and the wider organisation to enable the optimum equine and animal care.

To work hands-on with the team to monitor and improve methods of care

To liaise effectively and consistently with your managers and leadership team, openly communicating on all topics.

To respond appropriately and promptly to any issues and concerns.

To input into meetings with peers within the organisation, proactively and positively finding solutions to challenges.

To contribute to the training, exercise and enrichments of all farm animals and equines.

Support where needed with the riding school clients, customers and events.

**Visitors**

To ensure that the visitor experience at S&FE is always positive.

To ensure you present yourself in an informative and professional manner to visitors.

To be able to support demonstrations, confidently and knowledgably

**Expectations**

To participate in departmental and in-house training and carry learned skills into practice.

To ensure, as far as reasonably practical, observance and adherence to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

To ensure that services and conduct are in accordance with the company standards, equal opportunities, and objectives of Quality Assurance.

To perform other such duties, of a like nature, as may from time to time be required by the Company.
- Caring for large animals is a very physical activity and the role involves bending, lifting and other labour intensive tasks. - The person carrying this role must therefore be physically fit to carry out all of the tasks._
- There will be a need for flexibility to attend out of hours for sick equines/emergencies and also any training/arranged meetings_

**GENERAL**

Ensure you have a grasp of the Company’s structure, S&F Equestrians Values and purpose and have opportunities for involvement in its further development.

Ensure the maintenance of confidentiality in respect of staff, and client records and all privileged information relating to the services of the Company, its equines, staff and supporters and particularly of the area for which directly involved.

Promote and foster the Company’s reputation and standing within the community and nationally; with private,statutory and voluntary sector agencies and organisations.

Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required.

**NOTES**

All staff must be sympathetic to and able to project the philosophy and concept of company care and S&F Equestrian values
