An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech & Language Therapist/Teacher of the Deaf/Hearing Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team to help deliver a top quality service in a highly rewarding role.

Main duties of the job

You will receive full training for the role, and you will receive regular supervision and CPD activities. Participation in clinical audit and research opportunities is also encouraged.

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria

(i) Qualifications - A recognised qualification in speech and language therapy / pathology [or its overseas equivalents] OR - A recognised qualification in hearing therapy (HT) OR A recognised qualification as a teacher of the deaf
- (ii) Professional registration - Current full practicing registration of the appropriate professional regulatory body/bodies without unspent sanctions/ warningsDesirable criteria

i) Research degree or equivalent

(ii) Training in hearing implants

(iii) Auditory
- Verbal qualification OR Advanced specialist certificate in working with deaf people
- (iv) Basic British Sign Language (BSL) skillsExperience

Essential criteria

(i) Experience of implementing service development initiatives
- (ii) Experience of managing a complex caseload independentlyDesirable criteria

(i) Experience of working with adults and/or children with hearing loss in a range of settings

(ii) Experience of conducting research and/or evaluation studies

(iii) Experience of giving presentations at national or international level
- (iv) Experience of supervising clinical students or assistantsKnowledge

Essential criteria

(i) Knowledge of cochlear implants

(ii) Awareness of issues within the Deaf community
- (iii) Knowledge of the range of communication options available for hearing impaired adults and childrenDesirable criteria

(i) Knowledge of hearing implants other than cochlear implants

(ii) Knowledge of alternative assistive equipment for use by people with a hearing impairment
- (iii) Knowledge of educational, statutory and voluntary agencies involved in services for the deaf and hearing impaired.**Skills**:

(i) Able to plan, prepare and deliver a rehabilitation programme to adults and/or children

(ii) Advanced communication skills to be able to support patients with complex needs and their carers/families

(iii) Counselling skills for patients/families to guide patients through the hearing implant pathwayDesirable criteria

(i) Problem solving and negotiation skills
