**Prescription Administrator (permanent)**
28 hours to be worked Monday to Thursday inclusive. Hourly rate dependent on experience
**Job summary**
To be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of prescription requests for the entitled population, liaising effectively with all relevant personnel. Duties can include but are not limited to, the processing of repeat and acute prescriptions in electronic and hard copy format, including online requests. In addition, the post-holder will be required to support the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the strategic objectives of the practice are met.
**Primary Responsibilities**
The following are the core responsibilities of the prescription administrator. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice protocol that are received electronically or via the pharmacy or paper requests submitted by the patient themselves.
- Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe.
- Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a 48-hour timeframe.
- Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items.
- Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections.
- Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require.
- Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician.
- Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintain an accurate recall system.
- Effectively liaise with external services i.e. district nurses to ensure medications are arranged for housebound patients.
- Process Docman tasks sent from the GPs - including clinic/discharge letters for new and or changes to patient medication.
- Check daily in house workflow tasks sent to the prescription team and action accordingly.
- Input data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary

- Record and reported adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the patient’s usual GP or on call GP immediately.
- Read code data on EMIS, our clinical system.
- Carry out system searches as requested - maintaining shared care diary entries and running a failsafe for shared care prescribing.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
**Secondary Responsibilities**
- Support the reception team as required
- Partake in audits as required
- Support the practice manager in reviewing and updating the practice prescribing policy
- Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota.

Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above)

NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
