Winchester, United Kingdom Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This exciting new Physician Associate post within Breast Service has been created to support ongoing development of cancer care primarily within the breast diagnostic service but also working with the clinical team to impact patient care across the whole of the breast cancer pathway. The PA roles are being developed to work alongside the department’s doctors, advanced practitioners and other team members.

The PAs will provide supervised assistance to the multidisciplinary teams in the provision of a high quality service to patients. They will work under the direction of a supervising Consultant and mentor and collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust’s policies and clinical guidelines. Successful appointees will perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge. The appointed PA will develop to become a key member of the Breast MDT with the expectation they will support in-patient care, administrative processes, out-patient clinics and procedures. To maintain generalist skills, the appointed PA would be actively involved in pre-operative assessment and may also seek to spend time in the Acute Surgical Unit, managing emergency surgical patients.

By building on existing knowledge and skills as well as on the job training the post holder will contribute to the provision of high quality, patient centred care whilst advancing their own clinical skills. It is not mandatory that the Physician Associates have prior experience of the speciality as there will be provision of suitable training, supervision and accreditation.
