Cheshire Youth Justice Services is currently looking for a Youth Offending Service officer to work within our Prevention and Diversion Team.

In 2020 Cheshire’s Youth Justice Service was awarded national pathfinder status for our innovative ‘Child-First’ Diversion scheme which works in partnership with Cheshire Constabulary and the four local authorities across Cheshire to reduce the number of children receiving formal criminal justice sanctions. The aim is to intervene earlier and improve outcomes for Children and young people.

Whilst this is a Cheshire East post the job holder will work across Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, and Warrington. Having access to your own vehicle is essential. This is a hybrid role with flexible working from a range of office locations including a day or two working from home. Flexibility in working hours is expected to meet the needs of young people and families that we work with. Occasional weekend / bank holiday working will be required as per a service rota.

Experience of working with young people who have complex risk and needs and can be difficult to connect with is essential, as is the knowledge and understanding of the factors that put young people at risk of offending. Some knowledge of the Youth Justice System is desirable but not essential as training will be given. This post might suit someone with experience of youth work or in an education setting with an interest in helping vulnerable, socially marginalised young people.

The nature of this work can be challenging you will therefore need to be a confident and resilient practitioner. You must have experience of working with young people and have a commitment to helping them make positive changes in their lives.

You should have the enthusiasm and dedication to work towards provision of high-quality assessments and interventions for young people and the ability to multi
