**Job summary**:
Do you have an interest in intelligence analysis?

Are you someone that has an awareness of national security?

Can you deliver high quality work against tight deadlines?

If so, our Intelligence and Threats Advisor role within the Department for Transport (DfT) would be suited to you and we'd like you to apply.

**Job description**:
The role sits within the Transport Security Operation Centre (TSOC) division. TSOC leads the department’s planning for and responses to major incidents which impact the transport network, both domestically and internationally. As TSOC leads on the department’s emergency response mechanisms, you will be required to participate in the department’s response to a security or civil contingencies' incident. This will include out of hours working on occasion.

You will be the point of intersect between the UK intelligence community and the whole of the DfT. You will have responsibility for ensuring that both sides are adequately influencing the other and that policymakers across the DfT have the correct intelligence picture in order to make the most informed decisions. Due to the specialised nature of the role there is significant exposure to Senior Civil Servants and ministers within the DfT.

**The role of the Intelligence and Threats team within the DfT is to**:

- Work with policy decision makers in the DfT to ensure policy and capability decisions are appropriately influenced by the threat picture.
- Work with the UK intelligence community to influence their priorities and ensure the DfTs intelligence requirements are being met.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Work on thematic and modal areas ensuring that the relevant modal colleagues are kept up to date on the threat picture.
- Triage intelligence on behalf of the department, alerting the relevant modal teams and producing briefing packs for them.
- Collate incoming intelligence to deliver oral and written threat briefs for DfT colleagues, up to ministerial level.
- Identify emerging trends in threat to transport.
- Develop partnerships with external partners.

As the Division also leads on a wide variety of other tasks, there is likely to be an opportunity to be involved in other areas of responsibility. Flexibility within the role is essential.
- For more information about the role and responsibilities, please refer to the role profile attached.**Person specification**:
**About you
It is essential that you have a working experience and knowledge of UK National security.

You will have excellent engagement skills and be someone who can build rapport quickly with others as you develop effective working relationships both within the department and beyond. You will have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of
audiences. You will be adept at both working autonomously and as part of a team, collaborating with others to achieve shared objectives.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences. You are someone who can work at pace while managing multiple and often conflicting priorities to time and to a high standard.

Given the fast-paced evolution of threats, and the changing nature of transport systems, the post holder will need to be able to assimilate and communicate sensitive, sometimes technical, information to support risk mitigation and policy development.

You will often be working on multiple priority workstreams at any one time, so brilliant organisational skills and calmness under pressure are paramount to this role.

**Additional Information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

Due to the specific requirements of this role the role holder will be required to be in the office 3-5 days a week.

Please note, there may be a need for you to partake in temporary on-call work, should a situation arise that requires it. There may be an allowance available if this were to happen.

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Communicating and Influencing
- Seeing the Big Picture
- Delivering at Pace
- Communica
