**Responsible To**:Senior Managers

**Purpose of the Post**:The Vulcan Centre is an education charity that has a newly built, grant funded, construction workshop. It was built to extend our current education offer (health & fitness and general cookery) that supports young people and adults in the local community, to move them closer to the labour market. It has been in operation for 4 months and is proving popular.

You will work closely with our small team of Staff to deliver practical sessions to children and adults to give them the basic skills required to move them closer to employment in the construction industry, such as joinery, plastering, painting and bricklaying.

The role will involve working with disengaged young people who have often experienced multiple barriers to learning, so the ability to deliver engaging sessions to people of all abilities would be advantageous.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has an interest in working with young people and vulnerable adults to improve lives.

**Main Functions**:

- Dealing with people - 60%
- Dealing with processes - 10%
- Dealing with equipment and resources - 30%

**Person Specification**
(E=Essential, D=Desirable)
- To have (combined) competence within the Construction industry in order to teach the basics. (E)
- Able to deliver sessions that develop the learners’ skills, knowledge and behaviours. (E)
- Level 3 Teaching Qualification (D)
- GCSE or equivalent Maths & English/Functional Skills Level 2 (D)
- Safeguarding, Prevent Awareness and E&D training to encourage individuals to value diversity and challenge behaviour which undermines the ethos of equality (D)
- Committed to continuous improvement of own skills and development. (E)
- Appropriate DBS checks (E)
- Be able to work independently and as a member of a team (E)

**Conditions of Service**

**Hourly rate**: £12.50-£16.00, depending on experience.

**Location**:Based at our Centre in Heron Street in West Hull

**Criminal Records**:An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check will be necessary for the successful applicant.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Temp to perm

Pay: Up to £30,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 20 - 35 per week
