Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a research project entitled “Second generation arylhydrocarbon receptor antagonist, utrophin modulators for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy”, working under the supervision of Professor Angela Russell for a period of 24 months. This project is funded by the MRC and is carried out in close collaboration with the groups of Professor Dame Kay Davies (Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics) and Professor Matthew Wood (Paediatrics), and the Oxford-Harrington Rare Disease Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a collaborative project with world leading researchers and make a real impact to the development of a new therapeutic approach for the rare neuromuscular disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease with significant unmet medical need.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry or Chemical Biology or a related area (or be close to completion prior to taking up your appointment) and should have expertise in two or more of the following areas: medicinal chemistry, drug design / development, automated / parallel synthesis and purification methodologies, asymmetric synthesis, chemical biology, amino acid chemistry, sugar/amino sugar chemistry.

You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work for presentations, publications and deadlines. You will test hypothesis and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypothesis as required.
