We are excited to be offering the opportunity to join Northumbria Healthcare Speech and Language Therapy, Complex and Additional Needs Team.

We are looking to recruit an innovative, caring and dynamic SLT who would like to further develop their existing skills in speech, language, communication needs, in particular for children/young people with learning disability and complex needs.

The post will involve working predominantly into special schools in the south east area of Northumberland and in North Tyneside. The post holder will work with pupils aged 2-19 years with Autism, moderate/severe learning disabilities, including pupils who require support and interventions across all areas of communication and alternative and augmentative communication such as communication books, Makaton signing and VOCAs.

To develop/improve/maintain/manage communication/swallowing/feeding skills of adults/children in a given location, through direct intervention, liaison and joint working with other staff and carers and across agencies, to maximise their potential/ reduce risk and enable their maximum participation and integration into society.

The Complex and Additional Needs Speech and Language Therapy team is a small team who are passionate about supporting people with SEND and their families. We have well established and strong connections with our Health and Local Authority colleagues allowing us to work in partnership at all levels which was highlighted in recent SEND inspection reports.

- Close working with Clinical Leads, Consultant and Highly Specialist SLTs in Dysphagia, Autism, AAC and Stammering in relation to evidence based practice, innovation, audit and caseload management.
- Independently assess, diagnose and treat own specialised caseload of patients/clients and maintain associated records.
- Participate in research in the specialist area.
- Advise and provide clinical support to other therapists/staff on SLT issues.
- Supervise the work of assistants/volunteers and others working with the post holder.
- Contribute to the induction, mentoring and support of other more junior staff and may be required to facilitate clinical case discussions as part of peer review.
- Take full SLT student placements, contributing to their assessment and examination.
- To be accountable for own professional actions.
- To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote

ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
