Our funeral services play an important role in local communities, extending beyond the immediate needs of arranging funeral services, and supporting the bereaved at a very emotional time in their life.

We are seeking a Burial Ground Operative to join our team on a part-time basis (20 hours). As a Burial Ground Operative your main duties will include digging graves, general grounds maintenance and general upkeep of the grounds.

Our ethos is to provide the best end of life care, support and experience at all times at the Burial Ground.

**Key Responsibilities;**
- Accurately identify and excavate new and existing graves
- Responsible for the upkeep of the burial grounds, in line with an ongoing maintenance programme including topping up of graves and preparation of surrounding areas
- Prepare associated areas for services and ensure they are carried out in accordance with the agreed arrangements
- General maintenance and landscaping of the grounds including grass cutting, tree planting, hedge trimming and other associated duties in line with our biodiversity/landscaping strategy
- Undertake basic maintenance of buildings, plant machinery and ancillary equipment, including general cleaning, grounds clearance and bin management
- Ensure the burial ground is respectable and a presentable place of quiet reflection at all times
- Take accountability and responsibility of own safety and safety to others, complying with our health and safety duties and expectations
- Be responsible for equipment and PPE provided by the company

**Key Experience, Knowledge and Skills;**
- Demonstrate ability and experience in grave preparation including shoring
- Full clean driving licence
- Experience of operating machinery i.e. Digger/Dumper/Ride on mower
- Basic knowledge of burial legislation
- Good communication skills with a confident and professional manner
- Awareness and ability to work in line with health and safety guidelines
- Knowledge and understanding of horticulture
- Previous Cemetery Operative experience an advantage - Training available
- Physically able to carry out heavy and manual handling, working outdoors throughout seasons, strenuous and repetitive tasks
- Ability to work as part of a team and without direct supervision or immediate support
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of the bereaved in a sympathetic, compassionate and understanding manner
- Ability to build/promote links within the local community
- Existing relevant qualification, or willingness to understand study to achieve
