Consultant Oncologist

We are advertising two new posts to expand our current workforce of eight substantive Consultant Medical Oncologists and four visiting Clinical Oncologists.

Calderdale & Huddersfield NHSFT has been a pioneer in the provision of DGH-based oncology services since 1996, when the current department was established. The service was cited as a model for cancer care in the RCP publication “The Cancer Patient’s Physician - Recommendations for the development of medical oncology in England and Wales (2000)”.

Over the past 18 months, CHFT has been working collaboratively with Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to support the delivery of sustainable Oncology services across the wider geography. The two organisations continue to work closely together and these roles along with the wider workforce will help to support ongoing development.

We are open to applicants with a specialist interest in any tumour site, and the post-holder’s own specialist interests will be considered within the requirements of the current and anticipated service configuration.

Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants who will be supported through our highly regarded development programmes. The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest.

It is anticipated that this will be a 10PA full time post, although less than full-time working options can be discussed. There will be a requirement to travel to multiple sites where patient care is provided.

There is a current 1:8 Consultant of the week rota, and a 1:8 out-of-hours on-call rota will decrease to a 1:9 or 1:10 frequency as new postholders commence in their role. In the COW week the post holder will work on the inpatient oncology ward and provide a focal point for oncology queries.

The Department of Health and Social Care has awarded capital funding to invest in local health services at both Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. This is a significant investment and an opportunity to enhance services for our populations in Calderdale and Huddersfield and West Yorkshire for generations to come. The post is based at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust but to enable cross cover of colleagues some cross site working will be necessary. Office accommodation will be provided in the post holders’ base unit.
