**Job summary**:
The principle work of a Recreation Craftsperson is to ensure that our visitor sites in the Forest of Dean are well presented and maintained for public usage with priority tasks being litter picking, bin emptying and fly tip clearance. Minor maintenance works will complete the working day. Facility inspections and some emergency response works may be required to support the wider team in dealing with an emergency situation. The craftsperson role is front facing so a good level of customer service delivery is also expected.

There will be a regular working weekend pattern, working one out of every two weekends. Earlier working hours than the standard 8.30am are likely to be required in order to have sites well presented before the public arrives.

**Job description**:
**Key work areas**

**Provide a built estate that is fit for purpose for all users**
- Focus on site presentation through litter collection duties: litter picking, bin emptying and removal of all types of waste for disposal of at our depots. Recyclable waste must be segregated from non-recyclable waste streams.
- Any hazardous waste should be logged and reported to the site manager/ supervisor for alternative clearance arrangements to be made. Sharps can be dealt with using appropriate tools and a sharps box.
- Minor Maintenance tasks: to include the installation, repair and painting of signs, fence repairs, replenishing fall-protection materials in a play area or closing off individual pieces of play equipment after identifying a suspected fault.
- Vegetation control: Seasonal strimming and mowing of vegetation on recreation sites, gateways and around forest furniture. This may include occasional chemical spraying after appropriate training and certification of the individual.
- Safety Inspections: A range of visual inspections of paths, structures or trees to maintain the site in a safe condition, ensuring that defects are properly recorded and rectified in a timely manner.
- Public toilets: Occasional requirement to inspect and carry out duties such as replacing toilet rolls or unblocking toilets or mopping floors after flooding/misuse prior to the appropriate tradesperson or cleaner carrying out full repairs.

- Ensure personal safety at all times by following job risk assessments, using Peoplesafe (lone working) and by carrying out PPE and safety checks, in compliance with policy guidance.
- Input incidents and accidents into Airsweb, collating all relevant information.

- Customer Service and visitor welcome, engage with visitors and offer help and support on site. Answer general enquiries or pass to the correct member of staff to deal with.

**Person specification**:
**Essential**:

- Relevant experience of practical management and maintenance tasks
- A good eye for detail with high site presentation standards
- Excellent team working skills.
- Good communication skills

**Desirable**:

- A good understanding of relevant health and safety best practice.
- Experience in safety inspections
