BASE LOCATION: York

The Signalling Principles Designer role is based within our Signalling design Center in the York.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Produce and deliver safety related Signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in

accordance with the client specific requirements, appropriate railway standards, technical

constraints and our company procedures liaising with the Responsible Engineer / client.

Able to carry out Designs / Checks / reviews of Grip 1 to Grip 4 Designs and handle delivery

strategies, Hazard identification, risk analysis, subcontract specifications, tendering and estimates,

system definition, requirements capture, compliance management, safety assurance activities,

project programme, commissioning support, design investigations, handback and project closeout.

Supporting Designer Delivery Manager with design assurance activities including support with audits,

integration of designs, and work package management.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Producing safety related Signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in

accordance with project programme, budgetary and technical requirements
- Development of generic design solutions to meet Signalling requirements
- Identify and capture Signalling requirements
- Support the Design manager with the identification of operational risks, construction risk,

maintenance risk and system risk within design
- Ensuring the quality of all Signalling Design deliverables at a principle level
- Identify best practice signalling processes to increase efficiency and minimize cost of non-quality

and technical / delivery risk
- Leading small design teams and the production of design packages
- Producing safety related Signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in

accordance with appropriate railway standards, technical constraints, health and safety
- Maintaining competencies and ensuring that IRSE Licence and Authority To Work are accurate and

up to date
- Mentor, coach, and train other Designers including IRSE assessments when required to support

the businesses sustainability plan

**Qualifications**:

- 1.1.550 IRSE Signalling Principles Designer Licence
- HNC/HND in an engineering discipline

Experience
- Production of Signalling Design deliverables at a principle and system level on time and to budget
- Understanding of Specifications, Signalling Scheme Plans, Location Area Plans, System

Architecture
- Engineering interfaces with other disciplines, i.e. Installation, Test, Control Systems,

Telecommunications, Civil Engineering, Electrification and Power, Permanent Way
- Operational risk assessments
- Management of configuration and change control
