**The Security Analyst role**:
The **Security Analyst **will directly report to the Security Operations Lead, and deputise for them as required. You will be a key member of the Virtual Security Operations Centre (vSOC) function, which will include a mix staff reporting directlyto the Security Operations Lead, and staff embedded in other teams and matrixed managed by their local team lead and the Security Operations Lead.

**Responsibilities of a Security Analyst**:
These include but are not limited to;
- Operational responsibility for the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of Crick Systems and Data
- Ongoing development and maintenance of security monitoring and management tools.
- Introduction of new processes, policies and tools as required. Retirement of the same as necessary to maintain an efficient, performant vSOC
- Effective management of security alerts from across the Crick estate
- Implementation of security policy across the Crick IT estate and contributing to ongoing improvements as required.
- Championing awareness of security issues to all Crick staff, and identifying potential security champions
- Work collaboratively across teams and departments to increase understanding of service and security needs of the organisation and to determine the detailed technologies (hardware, software and any relevant integration with other systems/services) for secureoperation
- Working with internal and external auditors, penetration testers or red teams as necessary to ensure compliance and effective defence in security matters
- Continual service improvement of security incident and vulnerability management
- Follow institute policies and procedures; including incident and problem management, appropriate change controls and team standard operating procedures and document any team or work specific considerations for adhering to these
- Striking the right balance between risk management and operational efficiency. Seeing the big picture and ultimately supporting the Crick in its mission

**Skills and experience we are looking for in our Security Analyst**:

- Demonstrable experience of security incident and event management, including vulnerability and threat management
- Demonstrable technical knowledge in the field of cybersecurity, threats, and controls
- Excellent problem-solving skills, flexibility of thought and an ability to find pragmatic solutions.
- A good working understanding of cybersecurity and risk management frameworks
- Proven ability to work with staff at all levels to agree workable solutions, flexibility of thought, and the ability to achieve the right outcomes for the Crick
- A proven ability to demonstrate an appreciation for the operational needs of a scientific research environment is essential; previous experience of working in such an environment would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of creating, maintaining and troubleshooting rapid development of custom scripts in languages such as PowerShell, Perl and Python, including the use of team source repositories (GitHub).
- Experience of successfully automating system administration tasks through use of locally-developed scripts and/or integration with system administration and workflow automation tools.
- Operational experience including multi-platform (Windows and Linux) server administration, user-facing platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux), and network/web/database services.
