We are seeking an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) who is passionate about rehabilitation to join our friendly Speech and Language Therapy team based at Southend Hospital. The SLTA works within a multidisciplinary team (made up of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and Nurses), delivering speech therapy input to our adult inpatient stroke service and outpatient head and neck cancer service.

The successful post holder will work closely with Speech and Language Therapists in order to help assess, monitor and provide therapy for our patients in communication and swallowing. You will have a keen eye for detail, demonstrate organisational skills and be quick to pick up administrative duties and balance these with clinical demands

The post is suitable for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about working with people and enjoys working with a team. The post is full-time (37.5 hours a week) and working hours are 8.00 to 4.00 Monday-Friday.

**Main responsibilities of the role**:

- To work with the Speech and Language Therapists collaboratively in providing joint sessions, or independent sessions planned jointly, as an integral member of the Speech and Language therapy team
- To work with support and training from the Speech and Language Therapist to implement communication/swallow therapy with patients following a stroke or head and neck cancer
- To support the Speech and Language Therapy team clinically and with administration tasks
- Arranging appointments, organising calendars
- Maintaining database of head and neck cancer patients and their clinical outcomes
- Prepare/create new resources for patients
- To carry out therapy plans as directed by qualified therapists
- To have contact with families and other professionals working with the client
- To work collaboratively with the client, family and professionals to meet the agreed aims and targets
- To prepare the clinic/therapy environment, including the making and preparation of appropriate materials and activities, ensuring the equipment is available and in good condition; photocopying and distributing relevant information
- To balance administrative and clinical duties on a day to day basis
