Head of School, School of Law

Law has been studied at Glasgow since the University's foundation in 1451. Past scholars, including Viscount Stair, Adam Smith and Madge Easton Anderson (the first female solicitor in the UK), contribute to our inspirational history. Today, the Law School is a vibrant international community, with staff from a wide range of jurisdictions, offering a suite of highly regarded programmes (undergraduate LLB degrees in both Scots law and common law, LLM programmes in a range of areas, a vibrant PhD community and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice). It is also home to CREATe, the UK Copyright and Creative Economy Centre, established in 2012 as the only UK research centre funded jointly by the AHRC, EPSRC and ESRC and the Glasgow Centre for International Law and Security (GCILS). The School has grown substantially over the last decade both in terms of student and staff numbers, is consistently ranked highly in a range of league tables and was (on GPA) ranked fifth in the UK and first in Scotland in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
