Role Overview

The Legal Advisor will be part of the Group Legal Employment Team providing legal advice and employment litigation support to Bupa Group Businesses

What you’ll do

To provide employment law advice and assistance, with access to internal support and advice, as necessary, to Bupa and in particular:

- To advise the People team in managing complex employee relations issues, and non-contentious issues and policy development as required.
- To provide practical and strategic advice on contentious employment matters from beginning to end including managing our Early Conciliations and responsibility for efficiently running Employment Tribunal claims including determining and influencing strategy with assistance, where appropriate, from external counsel.
- To design and deliver appropriate training (digital or in person) on employment law issues to the People team.
- To monitor and understand new developments in employment legislation in particular so far as it relates to Bupa, identifying risk, mitigations and producing updates for the people team.
- To search for opportunities to innovate, increase efficiency and capture data through the use of digital tools and assist in implementing the same, with appropriate support and guidance.
- To provide specialist employment law input on specific commercial projects as requested e.g. TUPE, transactional issues.
- To support, when needed, on the provision of employment advice in other jurisdictions in particular in the Republic of Ireland and Asia with assistance from external advisors.

What you’ll bring
- Good level of employment law knowledge and experience in advising on a broad range of both contentious and non-contentious employment law issues, including TUPE, to people teams and / or operational stakeholders.
- Managed a busy employment litigation workload, familiar with employment litigation processes and procedures, developed negotiating and drafting skills and experience in handling sensitive reputational matters.
- Useful but not necessary experience: employment status, immigration, and financial services.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and simply.
- Solution and outcomes oriented. Practical and pragmatic approach to combine the best legal and most commercially efficient way of dealing with issues and projects arising in each case.
- Experience developing strategic relationships and influencing senior level stakeholders.
- Extremely organised and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both autonomously and as a team player.
