**Purpose of the position**

The Green Futures Intern will be part of The Dove Café team, reporting to the café manager and over-seen by supervisors. You will ensure good customer service in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, creating a safe place for all at the heart of the community. You will be working with volunteers and ultimately supporting the smooth running of the café with continued customer and volunteer engagement.

The role also involves working in the new kitchen garden, assisting with the new initiative and supporting the café to become more sustainable. This includes developing ideas around reducing food waste and local education.

You will support and work within the aims and purposes of St Thomas’ Church; in accordance with it’s ethos and values.

**Scope of job**

You will be involved in various stages of delivery including:

- General/Café_
- Display a confident and enthusiastic attitude at all times, with a great work ethic.
- Bring new ideas and take ownership of them.
- Produce food and drink orders to a high standard.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene
- Complete routine tasks such as cleaning, tidying, and preparing the café for opening and closing.
- Garden/Food Waste_
- Assist with kitchen garden initiative on-site.
- Oversee stock levels and rotation efficiently to support food waste reduction.
- Create meals (e.g. baking) from donated produce to reduce food wastage.
- Develop new ideas to support local education on waste reduction and the environment.

**Time with Feedback**

In addition to working with your host organisation, you will spend a proportion of your time working with other young people, receiving additional training and development with Feedback and external facilitators. This time will be spent learning more about the environmental and ecological crisis and how it relates to the food system; it will also include elements of activism training, employability skills workshops, leadership & project management training and bespoke support based on your professional and personal development. You will also access 1:1 additional support and mentoring to guide you through the process.

- Ability to work with all generations, including schools groups and community members.
- Working collaboratively with manager and supervisors developing menus, food service and future planning.
- Able to work in a loud busy environment.
- Be enthusiastic, hardworking and keen to learn

**Eligibility**:

- You must be legally entitled to work in the UK
- You must not currently be enrolled on a higher education degree (undergraduate or postgraduate).

**TRAVEL TO WORK**: We recognise that travelling to your placement via public transport may present challenges. We are committed to ensuring that travelling to placements will not be a barrier for people, and are happy to discuss ways to make this work. You may be able to access a bursary scheme to support the purchase of a bicycle or other low carbon methods of travel to work. This placement is able to be accessed by bus from High Wycombe/ Beaconsfield.

**Host Organisation - About us**

The Dove Café was set up by St Thomas’ Church as a community outreach opportunity on behalf of and with the support of the Beaconsfield Team. Without the strong vision, drive and hard work from the members of St Thomas’ Church the Café would not have been born. The Café opened in February 2022 supported by the local community.

The Dove Café is a Limited company with a board of directors with a smaller committee team. The project is not for profit and aims to break even at the end of each financial year.
