**DESIGN AUTHORITY**

**JOB INTRODUCTION**

We are currently recruiting for a Design Authority to oversee and manage the compliance of the assigned product portfolio in line with the international standards and regulations, and acts as the technical lead for supporting product development projects throughout the development lifecycle. In addition, design authority will lead applicable product approval processes and assists the department manager to formulate department strategy and process development.

**ROLE RESPONSIBILITY**
- Providing technical leadership for the relevant product portfolio
- Analyse product development requirements and provide technical and functional recommendations and product specifications
- Provide technical leadership and support for the development of new and innovative systems, technologies and solutions
- Horizon scanning for opportunities and risks associated with the relevant product portfolio, feeding back project proposals and updating the risk register
- Overseeing new intellectual property opportunities, such as patents and registered designs
- Representing the company on standards committees and industry associations, as required
- Manage the compliance of relevant product portfolio in line with national and international standards and legislation
- Manages the product approval processes (e.g. ENA) and support audit activities as required
- Undertakes lifecycle analysis and embodied carbon footprint calculations for the relevant product portfolio
- Reviewing and approval of changes to products
- Evaluate existing product design and development processes and recommend improvements
- Assist with, and when necessary lead, quality investigations using tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC
- Preparing technical reports, operation and maintenance manuals and similar documentation
- Developing verification and validation plans and test protocols, and witnessing type tests
- Authorising technical reports, and other documentation, ensuring document control procedures are adhered to at all times
- Advise manufacturing with continuous improvement implementation
- Coach, train and mentor other staff across the business in all technical areas

**THE IDEAL CANDIDATE**
- Qualified to Degree level in a relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Discipline
- Ideally a Chartered Engineer and member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IMechE, IET)
- Ability to work on your own initiative creating project plans, milestones and delivering on time in full
- Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a disciplined and enthusiastic approach, which captures the commitment of others
- Influencing and negotiating skills
- Detail oriented with the skill set to resolve problems
- Ability to present data effectively
- Problem solver with a methodical approach and an eye for detail
- Good IT skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
- Knowledge of quality management systems including ISO 9001 - internal audit qualifications would be an advantage
- Working knowledge of business systems
- Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) would be an advantage
- Understanding of ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 - health, safety and environmental qualifications would be an advantage
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
- Detailed knowledge of relevant switchgear industry standards (e.g. IEC and IEEE)
- Committed to continual professional development, and willing to assist others in their development
- A minimum of 10 years of working withing the switchgear industry
- Commercial experience advantageous
- Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers

£50,000 - 60,000 per annum

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
