Vacancy - Community Café Supervisor

Specialist Autism Services are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to oversee the running of the new community café at our Bradford site.

Specialist Autism Services provides a unique blend of education and care. We deliver a strengths-based autism specific personalised learning programme, to develop social, communication and employment skills which empower our members to engage with new opportunities, make informed choices, achieve their goals, maximising independence and inclusion.

The Café Supervisor will oversee our new cafe providing a safe space for groups and communities to meet and engage with activities or events. The purpose of the café is to increase inclusion and promote awareness of Autism in the local area. It will not be an ordinary café and a lot of the work being done will be with Specialist Autism Services’ existing members who will train and work within the various roles required in the Café.

The Cafe Supervisor, working with our Social Enterprise Coordinator, will take responsibility for running the daily operations of our “Cozy Corner” Community Café. You will work alongside our members/trainees and staff to provide healthy, good quality food at a reasonable price to our members and other local community groups.

You will work with our staff team to support people with an Autism Spectrum Condition to develop their employability skills, as well as support them to develop confidence, independence and life skills.

Desired Skills and Experience:

- Experience of working or supporting the needs of learners with communication and interaction difficulties
- Work experience within a café setting
- Experience of working in a person-centred way
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
- Have at least a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate
- Have GCSE Maths and English grade 5 or above or equivalent C or above
- Be confident in the use of Microsoft Office programmes.
- Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Conditions

Job Title: Community Café Supervisor

Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week, Monday to Friday

Main Base: Onward House, 2 Baptist Place, Bradford, BD1 2PS

**Salary**: £19,000-£22,000 per annum 

Mission Statement: 

Specialist Autism Services’ (SAS’) mission is to support people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASCs) by the provision of health, education, training, sports, creative art and counselling activities, which promote their social inclusion, training opportunities and ultimately employability. 

Purpose of the Post:  

The Cafe Supervisor will take responsibility for running the daily operations of our Cozy Corner Community Café. You will work alongside our members/trainees and staff to provide healthy, good quality food at a reasonable price to our members and other local community groups.

Our aim is to provide a safe space for groups and communities to meet and engage with activities or events, in order to increase inclusion and promote awareness of Autism. This is not an ordinary café and our priorities will always be to Specialist Autism Services’ members who will train and work within the various roles required in the Café.

Specific Duties:

- To be responsible for organising regular events and activities in order to engage with local groups and communities.
- To work alongside our Social Enterprise Co-Ordinator and Steering Group to oversee the strategic management and development of the Café.
- To work alongside Specialist Autism Services’ Finance Team to manage the financial sustainability of the Café.
- To provide a hands on approach both in the kitchen and front of house, in order to successfully train our members/trainees in a range of roles involved in running a Community Café.
- To empower Specialist Autism Services’ members, to flourish in a vibrant working environment and provide them with the skills and experience that they need to access a range of vocational and employment opportunities.
