**Pay rate**: £5.28 per hour

**Working hours**:
***37.5 hours per week (Fixed term 12-months)

**Annual Leave**: 28 days (includes bank holidays)

**Job Role**:
1. Motivatedby the desire to help children develop, you will be part of a team providinghigh quality care for children frombirth to 5 years.

2. Thepost holder will provide a warm and welcoming environment within the Nurserywhere young children and their families can feel valued and obtain positivehelp and support.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. To learn responsibilityfor the display and maintenance of a safe, stimulating, interactive, learningenvironment in the Nursery.

2. To learn to work withinthe guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage and assist in the planning,preparation and delivery of an effective programme of activities to help babiesand young children to develop.

3. To learn theimplementation of providing stimulating learning experiences, which enableyoung children to grow in confidence and independence.

4. To learn and developskills to effectively observe, assess, monitoring and record childrenslearning and development using a variety of methods.

5. To gather theseobservations and produce individual profiles for each child in your small keyworker group.

6. To learn responsibilityfor providing full access to an effective programme of activities for childrenidentified as requiring additional support.

7. To participate in staffmeetings.

8. To provide cover forpractitioners within the team as necessary.

9. To work in partnershipwith other professionals involved with the children and their families, i.e.health visitors, Inclusion support, speech therapists.

10. To support in the care ofsick children and those suffering minor injury.

11. To be familiar with thefire drill and procedures for the safety of the children.

12. To assist with checkingequipment for safety and suitability to use and preparing resources asappropriate.

13. To share responsibility forensuring the room is cleaned at the end of each day.

14. To assist in theidentification of child protection issues.

15. To access personal andcurriculum development opportunities.

16. To undertake duties in sucha way that ensures a positive multi-cultural approval and with full regard forthe principles and policies in place at the YMCA and comply with the EqualOpportunities & Diversity Policy and Child Protection Procedures within theorganisation.

17. Operate within YMCApolicies and procedures, strictly observing Health & Safety regulations ofcolleagues, parents/carers and yourself and the Safeguarding Children &Young People Policy.

18. Operate within Nurserypolicies and procedures.

**Apprentice Nursery Practitioner**

**Qualification**

**Essential**

**Desirable**

Willing to complete a Level 2 qualification within the fixed term of apprenticeship. (12 months, 1 day)

**Experience**

Experience of working in a culturally diverse area and a commitment to equal opportunities in the workplace which creates a welcoming environment for people of all faiths and of none.

**Skills**

Knowledge of Ofsted Standards.

Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

Able to speak two or more local community languages

**General**

Current first aid qualification

Current food hygiene qualification

Ability to respect and communicate the YMCAs Christian ethos
