**About us**:
The Data Science team at Ocado Technology consists of OR scientists, data scientists, insight analysts, software engineers and is mainly based at our head office in Hatfield. The team is responsible for designing cutting-edge optimisation techniques and machine learning algorithms to provide important business insights and ensure efficient operations. We work on optimisation problems and machine learning projects within the logistics, supply chain and order fulfillment space - from route optimisation to delivery-slots revenue management and staff timetables. Our data is stored in Google BigQuery and we work primarily in Java and Python.

**About the role**:
As an OR Scientist, you will work closely with the team lead and other senior OR Scientists on projects across the business, dealing with real problems and having a real impact on the operational performance of the company. You will be encouraged to research and seek out innovative solutions to solve these cutting-edge optimisation problems, and to implement, and test prototype solution approaches. Communication is key; you will be in constant contact with business stakeholders and will need to work with developers both within the team and in other technology teams to ensure that your solutions are properly productionised and can be supported.

**What we're looking for**

We are looking for a passionate Operations Research Scientist to join our group. We see the following as 'must haves':

- Experience in modelling and solving optimisation problems (using exact or heuristic methods)
- Demonstrated computer programming skills in Java, Python or similar
- Passionate problem solver with quantitative mind and eagerness to learn
- Having these will make you stand out from the crowd:

- Practical work experience modelling and solving optimisation problems
- Mathematics or related disciplines from a top-ranked university. A strong academic record including an MSc. or PhD in Operations Research, Computer Science.
- Experience with optimisation solver software (e.g. IBM CPLEX, Gurobi)
- Familiarity with optimisation problems arising in supply chain
- Familiarity with linear and mixed integer programmingoptimisation etc.
- Familiarity with optimisation heuristic methods e.g. Local Search, Genetic Algorithms, Ant Colony.
- Familiarity with Graph Theory
- Familiarity with simulation modelling and tools
