**Job summary**:
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 9,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. The Army’s Information Directorate provides the Chief Information Officer function for the Army, leads the Army’s digitalisation, delivers information exploitation services and orchestrates the delivery of digital programmes. The directorate also provides leadership and coherence across the Cyber and Electro-Magnetic Activities (CEMA), Intelligence and Security functions in the Army. The Director’s vision is: Information is valued, exploited and protected as a critical Army asset to maximise advantage in a trusted Single Information Environment

Digital Discovery sits within the Information Directorate in Army HQ and drives the Army’s digital agenda. This role will work to SO1 Digital Discovery and Assistant Head IX Digital Discovery. It is part of a valued team who identify, define and develop transformational digital change across the Army.

The Digital Discovery Team is at the heart of the Army’s digital transformation agenda; the Digital Discovery and Analysis Branch (DDAB) are responsible for triaging new digital requirements and helping users to refine their business needs - looking at people, process, policy and IT. DDAB put the user’s experience and support at the forefront of their work. As a Digital Transformation UX Researcher, within this team, you will be a key player in delivering several Discoveries and First Looks (a light-touch discovery process specifically designed by and for DDAB). You will have the opportunity to build relationships across the Army and Defence whilst driving stakeholders'

Discovery Phase; enabling them to understand the root cause of their problem and assist them to progress in their digital change journey. The work Digital Discovery delivers is not only crucial to the Army’s digital transformation agenda but also integral to the delivery of Programme THEIA And the Army Data and Digital Plan. You will work within a team of civil servants, military and contractors. Assisting with prioritising and supporting discovery activity. You will be a key player in delivering continuous improvement across all DDAB and wider discovery processes.

**Job description**:
A Digital Transformation User Researcher within DDAB is responsible for designing and facilitating research activities with identified users to attain understanding of the root cause of the problem, as opposed to the symptoms, and the potential opportunities to make improvements and real change to the users’ lived experience.

This role will give you the opportunity to work with a plethora of stakeholders, not only from across the Army but also across Defence. Contributing to making a difference to how the business is run as well as Soldiers and their family’s lived experience. As we move further into a digital world; innovation, forward thinking and communication skills are essential.

You will have the rewarding opportunity to enable and support business areas to own, assure and share data by operating and utilising coherent tool sets. This will derive better business and operational outputs whilst making efficiencies across the Army - the efficiencies and benefits are being tracked by Senior Leadership up to the Army’s Executive Committee.
