You will join our dedicated team in developing, reviewing, implementing and training on Health and Safety policies and procedures, and creating and delivering training content to support their implementation. You will work with a wide range of university staff at all levels, and tasks will involve working both autonomously and as part of our small Health and Safety team.

Ideally, you’ll have a degree in a relevant scientific or technical discipline and a specific occupational Health and Safety qualification at degree or postgraduate level, and extensive experience in developing and delivering health and safety training.

You will be highly literate with experience in policy development and articulation, as well as excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication skills, team working skills and a methodical and proactive approach to your work are essential for this role.

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Head of Occupational Health & Environmental Safety

**RESPONSIBLE FOR**: No direct supervisory responsibility

**PURPOSE OF POST**:
Providing a proactive Health and Safety policy development and training delivery function across the university, helping ensure that legislative and health and safety management system requirements are met.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**:
Identify & advise on legislative and best practice changes relevant to the University, irrelevant or obsolete elements of the SMS and the Health & Safety webpages, and deliver assistance on any priority aspect.

Develop university-wide policies and procedures on a project basis, as required.

Develop and administer the Health & Safety training course register and departmental records.

Advise, and as required lead, in the development and delivery of in-house training initiatives.

Train duty holders on the delegated requirements of the SMS and technical health and safety matters.

Implementation of delegated and priority projects as required.

Deputise for the Head of Occupational Health & Environmental Safety as required.

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS**

**Qualifications and Professional Memberships**

A degree in a relevant scientific or technical discipline

A specific occupational Health and Safety qualification at degree/diploma level

Membership of IOSH at GradIOSH level or equivalent

**Knowledge**

Knowledge of general H&S legislation and compliance standards.

Understanding of public sector policy and effective training techniques.

**Experience**

Health and safety experience in a scientific or technical discipline or extensive experience of health and safety in a general environment.

Policy development experience within a large and diverse organisation.

Developing and delivering H&S training, and coaching colleagues from other disciplines.

**DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS**

A specific H&S qualification at postgraduate level.

Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health or Equivalent
