TheHaematology Service at Medway Maritime Hospital requires full time Consultant Haematologist to replace current locum post. The appointee will join the Trust’s four existing Consultant Haematologists who provide a comprehensive in-patient and out-patient haematology service for the surrounding district of the Medway Towns (Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham) and Swale, covering a population of 370,000.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the management of the department as well as other forums within the Trust seeking medical advice/development from consultants.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the training programmes for junior medical staff. This includes appropriate supervision and completion of paperwork required. Time will be allocated to teach third year medical students. It is hoped that the post holder will undertake QESP training to be an educational supervisor for the junior medical staff; an allowance for study leave will be provided to support this.

The haematology team include 6 consultants (2 Job share), 1 Specialist Doctor, 2 SpRs, 3 junior doctors and 2 clinical nurse specialists. There is a dedicated haemato-oncology ward with 18 patient capacity as well as day unit for delivery of chemotherapy and busy outpatient service.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

All applicants must either be on the General Medical Councils Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Haematology.
