The Role

Are you passionate about looking after students living in University owned and managed partnership accommodation, promoting a positive environment and a sense of belonging and community? If the answer is yes, you could be joining our Residences Life Team who deliver a residential educational curriculum that supports a learning environment where students’ personal, academic and career goals can be achieved, while having fun along the way.

You will also undertake the role of Duty Manager out of hours along with other Accommodation Services colleagues.

Key Accountabilities
- Proactively promote the Residences Life model to support and encourage learning, relationships and community engagement
- To administer a residential curriculum that identifies residents’ needs with learning outcomes that are achievable through evaluation and assessment
- To recruit, train and line-manage student assistants to promote a sense of belonging and community. Deliver an extensive training programme which provides educational and behavioural information and guidance to support the student assistants’ role, to include facilitation from key stakeholders
- Maintain effective internal relationships with a diverse array of University services, schools and key stakeholders to include Student Union, Student Health & Wellbeing Service, Student Progress Service, Sports Centre, Careers Service and the University Library
- Work within University and Service policies and procedures while introducing local process reviews to ensure service provision and residents expectation is met and maintained
- Administer local budget arrangements to ensure that the purchase of goods and services are compliant with the University Financial system (SAP & P2P); to include liaising with colleagues and reporting back to the Residences Life Manager where appropriate
- Undertake the role of out of hours Duty Manager and participate in Service Incident Management and Business Continuity Plan as necessary
- Fully support the Service’s commitment to training by participating in courses and/or events to develop personal skill levels and knowledge to perform duties of the post

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Excellent organisation skills
- Ability to prioritise own workload and conflicting priorities
- Able to work effectively as a member of the team and to develop effective working relationships with colleagues and external contacts
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as detailed in the person specification, proven in a work context
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information, pay attention to detail and to work flexibly and co-operatively with others
- Knowledge of pastoral and academic support mechanisms for students
- Knowledge of / sensitivity to multicultural issues
- Ability to identify and resolve issues i.e. problem solving
- High levels of accuracy and numeracy
- Substantial experience in an accommodation related role and customer service background
- Experience of successfully using complex IT systems in delivering high quality customer service
- Must be available to work overtime at key weekends to meet the needs of the business

**Qualifications**:

- A good educational background to at least A’ level standard or equivalent, including demonstrated writing and numerical skills
