The role

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and an ability to get on well with people of all ages and experience. We are looking for someone who will be fully committed to working in a front-line service role, who will be part of the team to provide a portering and cleaning service. A flexible approach to working is required with lunch time periods with regular shift and weekend working. The ability to communicate in both Welsh and English is desirable for this post, continuing the University's commitment to deliverance of a bilingual service to our customers.

The Team Leader will be responsible for overseeing the work of a number of Facilities Porters and/or Cleaners under the guidance of the Facilities Management Team. Applicants must have ability to prioritise work and organise rotas, with a positive attitude towards a customer focused organisation and the need to monitor standards is an important aspect of the post.

You will assist the Facilities Management Team in delivering a range of supporting services to the whole of Aberystwyth University and contribute as part of a team under the direction of the Facilities Duty Manager or nominee. The Facilities Management Team, of which the role holder is a member, is responsible for all porter duties, cleaning and security matters relating to all buildings across the University estate and areas within our campuses. Additionally, the team is required to ensure the safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors.

The post holder will be required to work 29.75 hours per week, as well as a requirement for the post holder to be available to work on University Closed Days and Public Holidays, in addition to working occasional shifts to cover annual leave / sickness to ensure continuity of service.

Appointments are normally made within 4 - 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you’ll do

The Department is responsible for cleaning, portering, security and for the site management service provision to the academic and student population across the entire University Estate.

The Department currently employs over 200 staff and is therefore the largest department of the university in terms of numbers and has a turnover of over £7 million. Opportunities for further training and development, as necessary, are available for the post holder.

**Responsible for**:Assisting with the day and night operation of the university’s buildings by providing a cleaning and portering service within Facilities.

**Location**: All University buildings and associated areas under the remit of Facilities.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist a team of portering and cleaning staff working daytime and evening. Organise written work schedules for daily routine and arrange cover for absent staff.
- Provide a focus for a range of internal and external services e.g. maintenance requests, furniture moving, cleaning and portering, security support, deliveries and collections, mail, waste and recycling, fire precautions.
- Deal with staff, students and visitors in a variety of circumstances and respond quickly to emergencies. Deliver services at short notice under the guidance of the Facilities Duty Manager or Nominee.
- Undertake a range of administrative tasks both IT and written, e.g. compile and submit memos, orders, returns, maintenance records, employee records such as attendance and absence, material issue, training etc.
- Whilst carrying out daily tasks:

- Prevent and detect fire, responding to incidents as required and contacting relevant colleagues and services.
- Co-ordinating fire evacuations in residences. Record clearly and accurately fire alarm activations.
- Prevent and detect any damage within university buildings.
- Prevent and detect intruders, responding to incidents as required and contacting relevant colleagues and services.

- Building and people security - Checking and securing all University buildings as part of a wider Facilities team.
- Provide basic training on equipment and the role to new or inexperienced staff and assist with induction and safety training. Maintain and training log and record all training conducted for all personnel under your supervision. Identify training requirements and highlight to management.
