A Trainee Upholsterer is an entry-level position that offers the opportunity to learn and develop the skills required to become a skilled upholsterer. Under the guidance of experienced upholsterers and mentors, the trainee will gain hands-on experience in the art of upholstering furniture items. This role is ideal for individuals who have a passion for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a desire to learn the techniques involved in transforming furniture frames into beautifully upholstered pieces.
Able to start immediately would be desirable.
**Responsibilities**:
- Learning Upholstery Techniques: Participate in training sessions and practical workshops to learn the fundamentals of upholstery, including fabric selection, cutting, sewing, padding, and attaching materials.
- Material Preparation: Assist in preparing upholstery materials by measuring, cutting, and organizing fabrics, padding, and other components under the supervision of experienced upholsterers.
- Tool Familiarization: Learn to use and maintain upholstery tools and equipment, such as staple guns, sewing machines, scissors, and hand tools.
- Pattern Matching: Develop skills in pattern alignment and matching while working with patterned fabrics to ensure a cohesive and visually pleasing finished product.
- Upholstery Application: Support experienced upholsterers in attaching upholstery materials to furniture frames, ensuring proper placement and secure attachment.
- Quality Control: Assist in inspecting finished pieces for quality, helping to ensure that seams are straight, materials are properly attached, and the overall appearance meets established standards.
- Workspace Maintenance: Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following safety protocols and guidelines for material handling and tool use.
- Communication and Learning: Collaborate with mentors and colleagues to ask questions, seek guidance, and actively learn from experienced professionals in the field.
- Professional Development: Take advantage of opportunities for ongoing training, workshops, and skill development to enhance upholstery techniques and craftsmanship.
- Adaptability: Be open to working on various types of furniture pieces, styles, and designs to gain a well-rounded understanding of the upholstery process.

Key skills you will gain.
- Stripping of all types of furniture.
- Re-springing, re-webbing & re-foaming bare frames.
- Basic frame repairing.
- Re-upholstery of basic pieces of furniture such as dining pads & foot stools.
- Buttoning including making of the buttons.
- A basic knowledge of cutting & sewing of fabric.
- Understanding of fabric pattern matching
