Trainee Clinical Associate Psychologist

We are seeking three aspiring psychology clinicians to undertake Masters level training as Clinical Associate Psychologists to expand and enhance access to psychological care within Meadows Psychology Service. Training commences October 2025.

As one of our new CAP trainees you will be employed on a permanent contract. During the apprenticeship phase, whilst undertaking the Masters programme with the University of Plymouth (remotely), you will be remunerated at Band 5 Equivalent (A4C). Your MSc and Course fees will be paid for you, so in return, once qualified we ask that you commit to stay with the service for at least a further two years, during which time you will be reumerated at Band 6. Meadows Psychology Service are also developing promotion of CAPs within services so there is possibility of progression once qualified.

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake a structured programme of learning including personal study, academic work, research, placement learning and assessment leading to the award of the end point assessment and the MSc in Clinical Associate Psychology. To undertake specialised psychological assessments, treatments and other types of clinical intervention appropriate to this level of training with the services we deliver.

To become able to work more independently, initially under supervision, on a day to-day basis. This work will be supervised and reviewed regularly with supervision offered by a qualified Clinical Psychologist.

To provide consultation, psychological support, training and development to residential staff teams, education settings and a variety of organisations that we provide support to.

To provide psychological assessments, formulation and intervention to support children, young people and families.

To assist in the development of the Meadows Psychology Service in accordance with the needs of company. To contribute to Meadows Psychology Service as Centre’s of Excellence in the field of developmental trauma and attachment.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To provide psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions to Children and Young People.

2. If trained, to provide support to cognitive assessments (WISC-IV), and other psychometric tests being undertaken in the service

3. To develop psychological formulations of complex clinical problems and the development and delivery of care plans, including therapeutic support

4. To determine appropriate psychological intervention, taking into account a range of potentially conflicting clinical information and dynamics under supervision

5. To embed trauma informed practice across multiple settings under supervision, providing psychological support, reflective practice, training, formulation and guidance around the needs of children and young people

6. To attend such meetings/proceedings including statutory reviews, as is appropriate, to present assessments and provide a review of therapy to inform care.

7. To provide regular written reports regarding psychological assessments and interventions and general progress, for each Young Person being worked with.

8. To assist in the coordination and delivery of therapeutic groups

9. To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team

11. To provide input into routine assessment and care planning for young people.

12. To complete any relevant documentation and add to professional meetings as required e.g., Statement of Educational Reviews, LAC/CLA Reviews, Professional Meetings, Disruption Meetings

13. To work with the other members of the ‘Therapy Service’ to develop a service that will appropriately meet the therapeutic and psychological needs of all the children and Young People we support

14. To provide relevant training to Meadows Psychology Service - whether to the service as a whole or to specific teams.

15. To be involved in recruitment and induction of new staff, as appropriate.

16. To undertake any Continued Professional Development activities as are required to maintain and enhance clinical skills necessarily for the delivery of high-quality psychological care.

17. To attend and contribute to peer supervision within the Therapy Service.

18. To be knowledgeable of and to work within the parameters of Meadows Psychology Service policies and procedures. To gain an understanding of Ofsted requirements and Quality Standards for Children’s Homes.

19. To be aware of the nature of working within the independent sector, working for a non-statutory organisation and the different challenges and dilemma’s that this can entail.

20. To plan and prioritise own workload, research and sessions

21. To plan, monitor and evaluate own work

22. To plan and undertake formal MSc research as agreed with the programme staff

23. To maintain appropriate records of own work, in accordance with Meadows and MPS policies

24. To undertake clerical functions requiring some familiarity with applied psychology, including literature searches, maintaining training packs, information leaflets
