**Job Title: Parents2B Co-ordinator**

**To support parents to be and new babies.**

**Location**:North East Essex Quadrant (Office Location - Colchester or Tendring)

**Rate of Pay: £** £24,496 (full time 37.5)

**Hours of work: 20hrs. **( negotiable)

**DBS level required**:Enhanced

**Purposes of the job: To deliver parent2B project**

Home-Start Colchester, Jaywick and Clacton is a local independent charity. Parent2B projects aim to work with pregnant parents across all minority groups
- across Colchester and Tendring providing a fully funded service. Our aim for the project is that all registered pregnant people can achieve the same clinical outcomes for themselves and their baby, regardless of where they live, their age, ethnicity or disability.

Parent2B has been delivering a project for 2 years which has grown into a successful service to support both parents to be and new babies. You will create and deliver Peer parent support groups in both Colchester and Tendring for pregnant parents building trust and friendship and providing information and guest speakers to support your groups.

It is vital that the Co-ordinator can welcome parents2B with a warm welcome, nonjudgmental attitude and a positive helpful approach. Home-Start’s approach has always been flexible and therefore you will support attendees with one-to-one befriending support if needed. You will work as part of a team and create helpful workshops for parents along with presenting antenatal information.

**Main Responsibilities**:
**Support for families**:

- Plan and deliver community peer parent workshops in Colchester and Tendring bringing together new parents having babies at a similar time.
- Attend and represent Parent2B project at local public roadshows, maternity bus and partnership meetings.
- Deliver information given to the project from maternity services in presentations to support prenatal.
- Ensure support to families is of a high standard, in accordance with Home-Start’s model, policies and procedures.
- Understand the need for professional confidentiality.
- Represent the project is a professional and passionate approach.
- Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.
- To promote and facilitate parental understanding of a child’s needs
- Engage with families and develop and maintain a supportive and empowering relationship founded on mutual respect, trust and the strengths of families
- To work in partnership with parents to encourage independence and self-reliance and to help them to develop a consistent and positive approach to parenting aimed at addressing behaviours and overcoming challenges.
- To support parents to provide an appropriate environment in which babies and young people feel safe and which encourages the development of their self-esteem and resilience.
- When needed deliver essential items to enable families to manage during difficult times.
- Working in partnership with parents/carers and other multi agencies.

**Managing Volunteers**:

- As part of a team, train local volunteers and mentors to support your groups
- Supervise volunteers supporting the groups
- Ensure the scheme’s policies and QA procedures are fully implemented in all aspects of your work with volunteers, including their recruitment, selection, preparation, support and supervision.

**Working in Partnership**:

- Promote your project to local partners and attend appropriate networking events.
- To work in partnership with a variety of agencies including education and the voluntary sector to support families in the local communities with an emphasis on supporting those families that find it difficult to engage with services
- Ensure appropriate liaison with referrers and other professionals.
- Network appropriately within the community.
- Contribute to local policy and community development as appropriate.
- Signpost to appropriate partner services.

**Working in the wider context**:

- To ensure the effective day to day management of the project in accordance with the Home-Start Memorandum & Articles of Association, Home-Start Standards and Methods of Practice, the Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards.
- To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families or children within the Home-Start model.
- To ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of the scheme’s work.
- To ensure good safeguarding practice in all aspects of the scheme’s work.

**Experience and skills**
- A good understanding of local maternity services
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- A positive and creative approach to tackling tasks.
- Empathy with babies, children and families and a good understanding of the needs of all.
- Ability and experience to lead and supervise volunteers (adults).
