An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic and cohesive team of paediatricians at Northwest Anglia Foundation Trust (NWAFT).
We are looking to appoint a general paediatrician with an interest in epilepsy or who is motivated to develop a subspecialty interest in epilepsy to join a team of 22 hospital based consultants.
The post holder will be one of 15 general paediatricians based in Peterborough and will support general paediatric and epilepsy service in the Peterborough region of our Trust.
The paediatric consultants in Peterborough currently do a 1:12 general paediatric consultant rota and cover both general paediatrics and neonatology out of hours. The expectation is that the general paediatric and neonatal rotas will be split in the near future.
The post will attract 10 PA’s on the new contract.
The department in PCH is housed within a flagship PFI hospital with state-of-the-art facilities.
The paediatric and neonatal units are located together in the Women and Children’s wing of the hospital. We believe this integration is benefitting the paediatric department and we continue to increase cross-site working in the non-acute aspects of paediatric and neonatal care.
- Primary responsibility for epilepsy patients in Peterborough including at least twice weekly epilepsy clinics.
- Provide support and advice for patients with epilepsy admitted to the ward
- Support the Tertiary Epilepsy Outreach service including outpatient clinics
- Participate in Regional (EPEN) Epilepsy MDT a Training sessions
- Weekly general paediatric out-patient clinic
- To teach and train junior staff, medical students and allied health professionals.
- To participate in both departmental and Trust clinical governance and audit.
- To ensure active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
- Participation in the administration and management of the department
- 2 general paediatric clinics per week
- Clinic in area of subspecialty interest
- Consultant of the week 1 in 12 weeks

**The Epilepsy Service**:
The paediatric epilepsy service in the Trust currently includes 2 paediatricians with epilepsy interest in Hinchingbrooke, and three Epilepsy Specialist Nurses (working cross site in PCH and HH). The local service is supported by the tertiary epilepsy service based in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and there are eight annual outreach clinics in Peterborough. The local epilepsy service meets the standards to attract the epilepsy best practice tariff and is part of the East of England Paediatric Epilepsy Network (EPEN) which meets on a regular four monthly basis and is a platform for peer review, governance, and continuing professional development. The post-holder will also be supported to develop other interests within their role.
There are approximately 400 paediatric epilepsy patients in Peterborough and 200 in Huntingdon. We run consultant led 2 epilepsy clinics a week seeing new and follow up patients and there is one epilepsy specialist nurse clinic a week. In addition, we have support from one of the Consultants in Hinchingbrooke who does one clinic a month seeing Peterborough patients.
There are 8 Tertiary Outreach Clinics a year supported by the Addenbrooke’s Hospital Epilepsy and Neurology Service.
Paediatric Department Peterborough
Greater Peterborough has a population of approximately 200,000 people. Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Foundation Trust also provides a service to the adjacent areas of South Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland and so has a catchment population in excess of 390,000.
