**Equine Groom at Calvert Exmoor Equestrian Centre**

**The Role of Groom**

Our stables team are dynamic, customer-focused leaders. As a Calvert Exmoor staff member, you will be part of a fun, supportive team and will strive toward excellence.

Riding Instructors are required to deliver a professional level of instruction to all participants. Riding Instructors are responsible for managing the order of lessons and sharing the work load evenly on each horse as well as keeping up to date with CPD and staying current in the equine industry.

**Key responsibilities**
- Supervise and lead activities in accordance with NGB and Health and Safety Guidelines
- To be responsible for safety checks, maintenance, training and general upkeep of the stables
- Horse welfare and care
- To ensure the stables team are acting within their training at all times, and flag up any additional training needed to ensure safe activity provision
- Assist the Yard manager and Stables Supervisor with activity sign offs, observations, and training records
- Assist in the organisation and development of events, lessons and courses in the stables
- Assist in training new staff, volunteers and apprentices
- To work together with other members of the Activities Team to lead and co-ordinate day-to-day activities
- Proactive in sourcing and seeking out own development and training
- Actively support and encourage other departments
- To uphold the core values of Calvert Exmoor Equine Centre and Calvert Exmoor
- To act in accordance with Calvert Exmoor Equine Centre and Calvert Exmoor policies and operations

**About You**

Essential
- Hold your BHS Stage 2 coach or equivalent. Alternatively, happy to complete the teaching element of the qualification over the winter if you already hold the Stage 2 Care Ride Lunge.
- Passionate about working with and looking after horses
- Passionate about working with a variety of people with disabilities
- Able to work manage group sessions
- An approachable, professional and positive role model
- A pro-active and efficient team player
- Passionate about working with people
- Show initiative and be solution-based
- Well presented, punctual and approachable
- Use clear and appropriate language
- Good time keeping and flexible in your approach
- Happy to be out and about working in all weathers and on your feet for most of the day

Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of working with people with disabilities
- Experience of working in an equine centre

Requirements for the post
- Available to cover weekends
- You must have your own means of transport due to our location
- To be over 18 years of age

Situated at the edge of Wistlandpound Reservoir, among beautiful pine forests and rippling streams, our fully accessible centre offers high quality facilities and professionally adaptive accommodation, all nestled within the rolling hills of Devon’s Exmoor National Park.
