An exciting opportunity has arisen for Bioinformatician, with good interpersonal skills and a committed team member to join the Molecular Diagnostics team within the Clinical Genomics department. The department is located in the Centre for Molecular Pathology and is one of seven national Genomic Laboratory Hubs offering Cancer Genomic testing in England. The Centre for Molecular Pathology is a state-of-the-art facility bringing together translational science and molecular diagnostics and is one of the few specialised laboratories in molecular diagnostics of cancer in Europe.
In addition, the post holder will also involved in designing web portal for data visualisation and supporting Clinical Scientists and research scientist to analyse and interpret NGS report. Moreover, the post holder will be responsible for storage and backup of NGS data, user support, delivering staff training, writing standard operating procedures and other documents as well as ensuring that the department complies with legal and professional requirements in regards to storage and transmission of patient’s genetic and sensitive data.

- To develop and maintain a secure web portal for the NGS data analysis and sharing of clinical data.
- Maintain internal databases, linked to the main public genome databases and North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub (NT-GLH) central database
- To organise, store and backup data in a timely manner.
- To operate pipelines for the processing and analysis of raw data from high throughput sequencing (next generation sequencing) including calling of variants, translocations, amplification, deletions and other clinically relevant genomic alterations.
- To work with the department IT Support Team to develop automated workflows for large scale Next Generation Sequencing panels
- To work with Trust/NT-GLH IT team to set up Cloud service for data analysis and storage
- To provide professional advice and training in data analysis for colleagues.
- To prioritise work on a day-to-day basis and liaise with service users and colleagues in order to co-ordinate the service provision and research projects.
- To maintain valid records of bioinformatics activities, and organise corrective action as appropriate.
- To participate in the preparation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and in the review of these protocols when necessary.
- To produce reports and present data at internal and external meetings, including publications in scientific journals.
- To update professional skills as appropriate.
