Medical Device Trainer

Undertake non-technical duties to support the EBME workshop team to assist with the whole life cycle management, support, and maintenance of medical equipment across the Trust.

Corporate Responsibilities
Plan and prioritise own workload in order of urgency.
Assist in the maintenance and development of the medical equipment management database.
Accurately document maintenance activity and update the equipment technical history record.
Receipt of new medical equipment and spares, dispatch of equipment to manufacturers.
Liaise with clinical staff, outside company representatives and engineers during the process of purchasing or clinical trials of equipment.
Liaise with users and other team members to prioritise and plan own workload to ensure optimum efficiency and in responding appropriately to urgent requests.
Contribute to finding solutions to medical devices management support problems.
Support NHS England’s designated Medical Devices Safety Officer with improving medical device clinical incident reporting, completing actions from safety alerts, and communicating safety alerts within the Trust.
Investigate and produce written reports with regard to equipment identified in an adverse incident and advise the MDSO of the outcomes.
Undertake projects associated with procurement, commissioning and decommissioning of purchased and loan/ trial medical devices, including scrutiny of PAQ’s, user manuals, indemnity cover, and maintenance procedures.
Manage, arrange, and facilitate loans and trials of medical devices within the Trust, ensuring the correct procedures are followed to minimise risk.
Assist other members of the department in their duties to ensure smooth running of the medical devices support service, providing an optimal service to its users/ customers.
Keep the medical equipment database updated in a timely manner.
Education, experience, and training
Identify training needs relating to the use of medical devices, and organise and lead the implementation of training programmes, including on-line training to meet those needs.
Proactively address own training needs to ensure excellent knowledge for cascade training to others.
Actively teach and provide advice to all staff groups in the use of medical devices to ensure staff can use them safely & effectively and are able to recognise malfunctions.
Ensure Trust compliance is compliance with the relevant aspects of the CQC registration requirements and Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (NHSLA) Standards, by providing training programmes which enable staff operating diagnostic or therapeutic devices to do so in a safe and effective manner.
Ensure training issues identified thorough national and local reporting mechanisms, e.g., National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA), Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Training Hub for Operative Technologists (THOTH) and local incident reporting systems feed into local training programmes.
Providing regular reports, using agreed Key Performance Indicators, to the Medical Devices Committee and other Trust’s Governance Groups and escalate any pertinent issues relating to training and safety of medical devices
Provide supervision and support to staff engaged in self-directed and on-line learning
Attend manufacturers approved training courses to attain competency and cascade the training to appropriate Trust staff.
